Didn't fancy the plain black? I've been debating the nerve al 6.0 for a while, wish I could justify spending more money on a bike! https://www.canyon.com/en/mountainbi...ke.html?b=3573

The red is nice, I'm disappointed the Nerve AL 6 only comes in boring colour schemes, I guess they do that intentionally as another reason to convince you to move up a model. The colour is one of the only things tempting me away from that towards a Kona Precept/Precept DL.

That Spectral AL is very nice though, not sure I could get by with one chainring mind, I haven't got the legs for that yet!

Don't forget that it's got 11 out back - 36-11 I think, and the front is only a 34, so you're still getting better than 1:1 in the bottom gear. Definitely something to get used to though. I've ridden a few bikes with 1x11 setups and I have to say I didn't really feel comfortable on them BUT, I'd get used to it in short order I'm sure

Yeah I've rode one or two before, I struggled with getting in the right gear on sections that went up/down/up/down quickly.
You've got the good top and bottom ratios but I was wanting to move up or down 8 gears on one derailleur at once, whereas on a 2x9 or 2x10 I'd switch one front and a few back. That's probably as much my lack of power in the legs, not carrying in enough momentum, not knowing the track and not having enough confidence on a (demo) bike.
I guess if they've making the bikes with them then it's obviously viable!

That's where the 'block shift' comes in handy. The 1x11 sytems have a mechanism where if you mash the lever hard, you can shift a handful of ratios at once, just like dropping a chainring on the front

Didn't really have the confidence to try that, I guess modern derailleurs are much better than the one on my 10+ year old hybrid!
