Out and about in a boat

Thought I would shove some photos up from my short paddle on the Medway (Kent) today. Up until recently I have been using an inflatable kayak or a packable canoe when out paddling, this was due to lack of storage when we lived in a flat. But we recently moved to a house with a nice big garage so that opened p the possibility of adding a solid boat I kept an eye open on ebay for a couple of weeks looking for something that's capable of holding my weight, and that was local. Ended up getting an Ocean Prowler sit on top sea fishing boat

I live near to Tonbridge which is where the Medway becomes navigable and its great for beginners to paddle, most of the locks have been fitted with canoe chutes, so you don't need to get out of the boat if your going downstream, portage platforms have also been provided. There is also an easy out in at the sports ground, my favourite coffee shop is just around the corner so I grabbed a takeout.

Distance wise it was only 4 miles, and taken at a leisurely rate, it was my first time out in a new boat, and I am just getting over a bad cold. But wearing the right kit I kept war, too warm at times despite it being about 1 Celsius.

Top end of the navigation is the Leigh flood barrier

    Looks fantastic!

I used to Sea Kayak often back when I lived in Oregon. It's such a great way to relax and to see places from a new perspective!

Re: Out and about in a boat

If anybody wants to come out on the Medway I have several boats now.

For beginners my inflatable Gumotex Solar is brilliant.

The Pakcanoe is also good, but a bit twitchy, managed to dump myself out of it a few times
