Still trying to get my head wrapped round Newcastle LOL…
Newcastle have now become “one of the world's richest football clubs” after the takeover, Sky Sports said. The PIF will take a controlling 80% stake and they have reported assets worth £320bn
Newcastle?
Sorry, not really up to speed on them - I don't follow non-league football.
It looks like Man City all over again. Big money investment in the prem is terrible business imo. You need CL and there are too many contenders. How many seasons until they expect to break into the top 4.
In order to land Phillip Coutinho, Jamez and every other player who's contract far out weighs their value; will they go DOF or big name manager to raise their reputation?
Steve Bruce must be polishing his CV but who will be replacing him? Sven-Goran Eriksson or Conte.
Between binge sessions on FM in I don't really follow football.
Football isn't my thing, but it seems to me that there's a difference between a clubs (80%) owner being hugely wealthy, and the club being hugely wealthy.
On a micro version of that, I was the effective owner of a limited company (one other nominal shareholder with less than n5%) but whatever my net worth was, it certainly wasn't the companies nor did the other shareholder have any claim on it via the shareholding (though she did by virtue of being married to her).
Newcastle's new "wealth" will only be what PIF choose to invest, loan or otherwise provide. Which may be huge .... or not.
A lesson learned from PeterB about dignity in adversity, so Peter, In Memorium, "Onwards and Upwards".
I hate when these things happen. Now every player will say that it was always his dream to play for Newcastle LOL
