My first 'blog. The first of a long line of informative and humourous posts - not.
Everyone else at HEXUS.inc seemed to be flying around the world, gathering frequent flyer miles by the bucketload, so it's now my turn.
It's 7.10am and I'm currently sitting in the lobby of the Hilton hotel, Santa Clara, California, opposite a Japanese man with far too many nice lenses for his uber-expensive Canon 20D camera. His laptop is also nicer than mine. Life isn't fair! Why am I here and not in the review dungeon that is my office?
Well, David, a.k.a Lord Ross of Purton, in his infinite wisdom, decided to send yours truly to cover Intel's research week and NVIDIA's editors' day (which, incidentally, is two days). Intel's HQ seems to be in the middle of nowhere. I can almost see the building from where I am, but getting there means traversing 16 lanes of high-speed traffic and the occasional tram. California isn't a pedestrian-friendly state, from the little I've seen thus far.
Intel's research week promises to be interesting, focussing on, amongst other things, next-generation mobile storage technology. I'm far more interested in the wine-tasting afternoon scheduled from Thursday. Just don't tell Dave that (oops).
The battery in my ancient laptop is going down quicker than Ruud Van Nistelrooy in the penalty area, so it's adios for now. Keep your eyes peeled for a few interesting pieces (hopefully) in the next couple of days.
