Heineken in hand and mingling in the way that only experienced minglers do, a likeable and charismatic man approached the table that I was standing around.
He seemed to have a penchant for British pubs, fast cars, smooth talking, and, wait for it, graphics cards. Was he some other journalist, invited by NVIDIA for Editors' day, to be briefed on a certain product that will launch in the not-too-distant future? (can you guess what it is yet?). He could have been, but then he also happened to deliver the closing keynote speech and knew an awful lot about NVIDIA.
He should do, too, as this 42-year-old was none other than Jen-Hsun Huang, CEO, President, and Co-Founder of NVIDIA. What struck me most was not his status in the industry or his $100m+ fortune, but rather the twinkle in his eyes and general enthusiasm about his company. Company spiel only goes so far with me, yet Jen-Hsun retained that almost child-like wonder when expounding his vision of where NVIDIA is headed to next.
It was refreshing to talk to a man whos hobby, so to speak, became a billion-dollar company, and I bet he's still the same down-to-earth man he was back in April 1993, when it all began.
I should have siezed the moment and asked him to the keys of his Ferrari!
