    n5200 - no access

My n5200 (firmware 1.00.08) seemed to freeze and lockup on the weekend whilst I was away.
I had to hold down the power button to turn it off.

I powered it back on and it seemed to be OK, then a few hours later it locked up again. I checked the web interface and noted in the log "Hard Disk on N5200 has an I/O error" quite a few times.

I was now unable to access the shares on the Thecus (by hostname or IP) and although I could ping it by IP I could not ping it by host name. Further I was unable to access some of the operations in the web interface.

I logged into the web interface and tried to upgrade the firmware to 2.00.01. This failed the first couple of times and it even reset the password to default at one point. The firmware upgrade finally said it succeeded and the Thecus rebooted. At boot it shows 2.00.01 on the display so I assume it has new the firmware.

But now I can't access anything.

I have cleared the HBT log file by holding the Esc + down arrow and then pressing Enter.
I have rest the Thecus by holding the Reset button.
I have cold booted the Thecus.
I can still ping the IP (now reverted to default) but I can't access anything else.

Can you please advise on the demise of my Thecus?

    Dear Sir,

Seem some parts get damged, if we can't access to this N5200 at all, please contact with your reseller for RMA service.

    Re: n5200 - no access

I contacted Thecus tech support and they suggested I flash the firmware using the USB method (copying firmware and factory_test.sh file to USB key and rebooting Thecus with USB connected).

After following the procedure, the Thecus rebooted, but I still can't access it.

    The LCD now shows:
    Thecus N5200
    WAN: N/A
    DISK INFO: [000...]
    RAID: NONE
    SYS FAN: OK
    Link Aggr:

I have tried restarting it and have tried resetting it to defaults, but now I can't even ping the Thecus and I'm concerned it says "RAID: NONE" on the display.

I purchased the Thecus when I was overseas. Can you please advise where I can get this repaired in Australia?

    Re: n5200 - no access

    This is a joke.

I received my replacement DOM yesterday, however after installing it I am unable to login to the Thecus!

I have tried resetting the Thecus, using both the Reset button and the LCD Display reset option.
Neither resets the Thecus to defaults. The Thecus appears locked at it's current setting and I don't know what the password is (it's not the one I set).

It's been three weeks since I sent the first email to Thecus support and I still don't have a working N5200. For a device that is targetted at SMBs, I don't know how the expect a business to survive three weeks without data.

I have just sent Thecus support another email request for help.
Here's hoping it can be fixed soon!

All I can say is the Thecus support is terrible. I sent them an email on over 72 hours ago (that's three days for those not so good with their maths) and have not had a response.

Once upon a time I was a big fan of Thecus products; they offered everything I wanted in a product... oh, except service. They seem to have neglected that.

    VERY UNHAPPY THECUS USER.

If you think thecus support sucks try dealing with EMC in an enterprise environment. we have 4 EMC celerra datamovers at work and their support is beyond sucky and we paid an arm and a leg for the equipment!
