    Anyway to determine if DOM is my prob?

    OK, well, Thecus N5200 with firmware 2.00.04 crashed last week during a large file transfer and crashes during every attempt to rebuild my four disk RAID 5 array. This has happened once or twice before but I've been able to recover by either reverting to older firmware and upgrading or low-level formatting one of my disks in the array and reinserting.

    Over the past few days I've done all these things I usually try -removed a drive and array exists as degraded but crashes if I try to do any kind of file transferring and I used USB key to set firmware back to 1.00.07, upgraded to 2.00.01 on thecus website. Tried to rebuild array- no dice- crashes again.

    The N5200 only reboots properly half of the time, I usually have to unplug the cable in the back of the unit to get it to boot properly.

    I don't know if I'm in warranty but see people who have somewhat similar problems to mine have good success with getting their DOM replaced.

    How can I definitively determine if my DOM if F'd?

    What else can I do. My friend SSH'd into my Thecus to check the health of the arrays- he said the filesystem is healthy and intact- it doesn't appear to be the array thats the problem.

    please someone help...

    Re: Anyway to determine if DOM is my prob?

    Will Thecus send me a replacement DOM?

    Is there a way to buy a replacement DOM online?

    Should I take a gigantic magnet and wave it over my current DOM? (sarcasm)

    anyone out there?

    I put in a service ticket already and sent in my config.bin and error log file with the ticket...

    I just want this thing to work for once...

    Dear Sir,

    If clear up the DOM, the N5200 wouldn't workign anymore, please check the system log from web inteface for any HDD error or somthing like, or download the CONF.BIN to support@thecus.com for us analysis.
    SYSTEM->CONFIG MGMT->DOWNLOAD

    Re: Anyway to determine if DOM is my prob?

    Yvone,

    I started a support ticket and included the conf.bin file and log file on the site. I hope to hear back from them...

    I can copy/paste from the log file many I/O errors for example:

    2008/01/06 22:33:57 N5200 : mdadm: failed to RUN_ARRAY /dev/md1: Input/output error

    I have a bunch of those.

    More to come...

    SO ANGRY and frustrated but appreciate the reply

    Re: Anyway to determine if DOM is my prob?

    Daer Sir,

    Following log information for your reference:
    Hard Disk on has an I/O error.-------->DOM Damged
    /dev/sda has an I/O error.------------>SATA HDD1 damged
    /dev/sdb has an I/O error.------------>SATA HDD2 damged
    /dev/sdc has an I/O error.------------>SATA HDD3 damged
    /dev/sdd has an I/O error.------------>SATA HDD4 damged
    /dev/sde has an I/O error.------------>SATA HDD5 damged

    If log showing: mdadm: failed to RUN_ARRAY /dev/md1: Input/output error
    it is RAID volume have some problem, following stpes for your refernce:
    1. Confirm log system with "Hard Disk on has an I/O error" or not.
    2. Check RAID system has any problem from: STORAGE->RAID->RAID STATUS.

    Yvon.

    Re: Anyway to determine if DOM is my prob?

    OK,

    SO, I copied everything off the "degraded" remains of my array to the 4th drive I can't add. I erased the original RAID 5 array and formatted the 3 drives. I then put in one drive at a time separately and built them as JBOD. I attempted to copy large amounts of data and no matter what disk, what bay the Thecus itself CRASHES during file copy.

    I didn't know what else to do so I put all three drives in and rebuilt the RAID 5 array from scratch. Built ok after the 2nd or 3rd try. Then I started trying to copy my files back and just selecting a folder with >5gig worth of stuff in it will cause the Thecus to lock up mid-copy. I then have to pull the plug on the Thecus and reboot.

    My question at this point I guess is how can I get this unit fixed/replaced?

    Or do I own a $800 brick?

    Dear Sir,

    If confirm all of the HDD is health, please contact with your reseller for RMA server or checking possible hardward damage issue.

    Re: Anyway to determine if DOM is my prob?

    So that means Thecus can't/won't do anything to help me out?

    My reseller's policy is 30 days which I'm past.

    Is there anything else Thecus can do for me or do I truly own a $800 brick?
