n5200 pro - performance and monitoring

I am considering purchasing a n5200 pro and have some additional questions.

    1. If a drive fails, does it have the ability to send an email to a designated account to let me know of the failure?

    2. This will be used as a media server and will be on a gigabit network and accessed by (at most) 2 clients at the same time. All the access will be through NFS shares Does it have the throughput and performance to handle sending the videos across the network (without the client seeing jitters or pauses)?

    3. How noisy is the unit when it is running? It will be behind a door in a home entertainment unit and the couch is about 8 feet away. Silent or near-silent operation is what I'm wanting.

    Thanks in advance!

Yes, but there are some issues with some ISP's.

I use it as media server, but have installed twonkymedia on it. The unit performs fine with HD-movies.

It's not realy silent - some users have changed the fan to have it more silent. It's like a desktop PC with the fans running permanently.

Ah Yes, I have the nonPro Version.

Re: n5200 pro - performance and monitoring

This might sound silly, but I can't find what size of fan it takes. On the pictures I've seen, I can tell it has two fans (one for the cpu and one for the drives), but I can't tell what size they are. I would guess 80mm, but it would only be a guess. Any help?

Besides replacing the fans, can you suggest other noise-reduction ideas for this unit?

    Thanks!

Re: n5200 pro - performance and monitoring

The rear fan is 92mm, the Pro has a 40x10mm fan on the CPU and a 40x20mm fan in the power supply. the non-pro doesn't have a CPU fan.

I have replacement fans for mine here, not fitted them yet though

I am also using the Twonkymedia media server, but in my case it is too slow for HD videos. Most of mine are ATSC captures which run around 18Mb/s. I've also noticed my smb transfers are much slower than I'd expect. My N5200 PRO is connected to a gigabit network. Clients have gigabit interfaces. By contrast, ftp transfers are very fast, at least 20 times faster than UPnP transfers which doesn't make any sense since ftp uses TCP and UPnP uses UDP.
