Cant access AFP on MAC, and N7700

I got to Connect to Server >> then afp://192.168.x.xxx and it says everytime

** There was an error connecting to the server. Check the server name or IP address and try again

    Why??? It doenst work.

Both AFP and SMB services are running on my N7700.

When I connect with smb://192.168.x.xxx -- some folders work ok and i can see evrything and drag and drop whatever files I want... other folders, and its random really... I drop a file and immediately it disappears and becomes hidden.

Its there in the SMB folder but it vanishes away and becomes hidden

Do you guys have any ideas?

    What can I try?

I cant populate my N7700 at all.. no connection with afp, and with SMB only some folders in public view but nothing in ACL

    Phillip

    Dear Sir,

If possible would you please provide the CONF.BIN for us analysis from http://esupport.thecus.com, we could download the CONF.BIN from SYSTEM->CONFIG MGMT->DOWNLOAD->CONF.BIN

Re: Cant access AFP on MAC, and N7700

I just got an email from Thecus

After check the CONF.BIN and found it is ZFS partition, thus why can't via AFP to access N7700 ZFS partition, and ZFS doesn't support SAMBA with ACL.
Thus we would recommend config the RAID with multiple RAID in EXT3 format, and following steps for your reference:
    1. Remove all existed RAID volume from N7700 WEB interface.
    2. Reset N7700 to factory default from N7700 WEB interface.
    3. Create multip RAID in EXT3 format, please don't over 8TB for each EXT3 RAID volume.

Re: Cant access AFP on MAC, and N7700

Ive sopent the last week straight copying data to the Thecus.. ZFS partition...

Now im being told that ZFS does not work with Mac... you cant use ACL, you cant use AFP.. this is terrible

Have I lost a whole week?

And I have to go back and delete everything and start over with EXT3 and TWO partitions.. I didnt want to do this...

Do you think a firmware update will fix all this?

They are telling me to delete everythign, start over, in two partitions

are you guys going to delete your ZFS raids after you heard this?

    p

did it automatically set up ZFS when you got it, or did you do that?

Re: Cant access AFP on MAC, and N7700

ive read the zfs wiki, and thats why i went with it for the mac... no size limitation (i think 16tb is the upper limit)

and ported for the MAC so it should work fine... ive been transfering data and backing up to the Thecus for one week now, and i guess that week ahs been lost...

because thecus is saying that I should delete the ZFS partition and start from scratch with EXT3, if you want...

    1. ACL access per user to your folders
    2. Read/Write supports with AFP on the Mac
    3. Faster speeds

So I guess I cant recommend ZFS for mac users... Or anyone that needs ACL on their folders, and not just public

  10. Received thanks from:

That's a bit of a pain. So have you swapped to an ext3 filesystem?

Re: Cant access AFP on MAC, and N7700

I have two N7700 with 14x of the seagate 1.5tbs

One of them is the main backup for the studio... the other is the NSYNC backup off site.

I just deleted the 8.3TB ZFS partition on the off-site. and started again with EXT3.. Nope.. 8TB size limit.

So with 95% selected in the Gui, and 5% left over for other tasks... you lose .5TB but you can haveONE partition in EXT3.. since it comes in at 7.8Tb.

I wish Thecus could fix the EXT3 limit... and you could have more than 8TB

Is that a firmware update? or problem with eXT3 IN GENERAL?
