Exclamation N299 JBOD drives config lost ?

    hi all,

I started up my N299 today and it could not find the JBOD'd drives (2) that I had working fine before. The configuration seems lost? There wasn't anything wrong with the drives either, both were functioning normally.

The drives are: 500 Gb Western Digital WD5000ABYS Caviar RE, SATA300, 7200 rpm, 16MB Cache, 8.9 ms, NCQ

The firmware I have loaded is V1.00.24

Also I can't shut down the system from the web broswer, it says its shutting down in 10 seconds but the actual unit never does? I have to push the front button to get it to power off. Restarting seems to be getting iffy also, it works but only if the cable running into the NAS is moved around a bit, like something inside is loose.

Re: N299 JBOD drives config lost ?

    Dear Sir,

Thanks for your mail to Thecus esupport system, in reason of JBOD with data protection, thus please don't modify or install the WD WD5000ABYS into PC! and following steps for your reference:
    1. Please try to upgrade to N299 latest beta firmware V1.00.34:
    http://www.thecus.com/Downloads/beta...FW_1.00.34.bin
    2. If can't upgrade the firmware, please install another empty HDD to create a JBOD volume, and than upgrade the firmware.
    3. If we could upgraded to V1.00.34, please put the WD WD5000ABYS back to N299, and please select one of the following methods to publish NAS on the internet for our engineer to analysis for you:

    a. Public Fixed IP (most easy)
Just assign a public fixed IP on the NAS WAN port

    b. DMZ (easy)
Enable Router DMZ function and fill in NAS WAN private IP in the Router DMZ column, and then tell me the Router WAN IP.

    For Example:
    Router WAN IP is 139.175.55.244
    NAS WAN IP is 192.168.1.100
Enable Router DMZ function and fill in 192.168.1.100 for DMZ, thus the Router will forward all connection of 139.175.55.244 from internet to NAS WAN IP 192.168.1.100, than I could access to the NAS.

    c. Virtual Server (port forward) (a little difficult)
Assign port 22 and 80 (or 443) forward to NAS private IP, this way only forward port 80/443 to NAS IP. For N299 plase open the port 80 and 9495.

Re: N299 JBOD drives config lost ?

Well I finally bought two new 500 gig HDs same as the ones I had in before (Western Digital) and the NAS 299 still will not find the new HD's. It says there is nothing to configure and I cannot upgrade the firmware either.

Also the NAS still will not shut down properly, I still have to pull the plug out in order for it to turn off? Also it takes a bit to get it to start.

    What should I do?

    Hi there ctipping,

did you have exchanged the batterie in N299.
This is a major reason for failure.

Please change it its a CR1220
