WHS ??? Windows Home Server ??
I have a WHS and I am working on a solution that will hopefully enable iSCSI support for the home server. I think it can be done but have not got it working just yet. I have been able to get an iscsi connection but not yet able to add to my storgage pool.
I will keep you updated
Why would you want to buy a N5200 and then install WHS on it?
Doesn't make sense to me.
I will give you a few reasons.
I use my home server for a few things the Thecus just can't do or not do well. For example I installed the uTorrent Add-in on my WHS so my home server is used to download torrents. I also use the RSS feeds to automatically download TV shows etc... and update my clients...The download manager in the Thecus is not only very very slow it does not automatically load the torrents and does not support RSS feeds
Another major advantage of using WHS is that there is also a plugin for MyMovies http://www.mymovies.dk which the best way to organize your DVD ISO images and Xvids.
Thirdly the media player is better then the built-in media player on the thecus.
I also prefer the backup method of WHS over the Thecus
Lastly there are several other really cool plug-ins you can install on WHS and MyMovies like transcode360 to stream your DVD's and XVIDs to your XBOX 360 and other media players. We use the Dlink Media Players (DSM-510, DSM-520 and DSM-750) and an XBOX 360. I also the WHS to manage my clients virsus definitions, schecule scans etc...There are many add-ins to help you manage your clients and network to turn your clients off and on plus WOL.
I was hoping the Thecus would replace my WHS but I will have to keep it for the reasons mentioned above.
The only real negative side is how the WHS wastes disk space. I am trying a couple of ways of combining the two. I am currently creating a Virtual Machine using VMWARE of WHS and will run the image on my Thecus. This way I can turn of folder duplication and still have all the features I want. I am also looking at using iSCSI to add to my storage pool.
Perhaps it is silly but our house strickly uses digital media and I still like the flexabilty WHS gives us. If you can get by with just the Thecus then great. Personally I can't and won't be limited

I have a buffalo tech iscsi terra station and would love to get it to work with whs..
Right now i have played around and its very easy to get it hooked up to the home server but no luck on having windows home server see it under storage pool..
I have tried many different ways and the volumes will just not show..
if someone knows a way i would appreciate knowing...
I have it just shared out through home server for now until i can get it reconized under the storage pool.
Thanks for any random advice but looking for serious guys only please..
I dont suppose there have been any developments on this?
Likely there will be an upgraded and immaculate N5200 on ebay soon unless I get WHS loaded.
