    N3200Pro and weird ftp/afp access

    Hello,

    I just receive my two N3200Pro. (v1.00.02)

Feeded with 3 Hiachi 1To each, RAID 5 mode.

I 'm now working on first to save the config and replicate on the second N3200

    setup wan parameters
setup afp and ftp services (anonymous not allowed)
    create users (local)
    create folder
    define ACL

Here are the troubles I have :

    I'm working on a Macbook pro OS X (10.4.11)
From the "Finder" I can log both with AFP and FTP.

With AFP , I can see the shared folders list and log (very long time to wait with the progress bar) to each
But I cannot copy/create or do anything, the spinwheel comes at each operations I do. If I try to copy from my disk to the N3200, it takes a while to do nothing and it displays the message :
(i do my best to translate from french system version)
"impossible to copy the elements, their names are too long for the destination, would you ignore and copy the others?"
I continue but nothing happen. My test file was only a "test.txt" file about 15ko

With FTP things go weirder !

logging toftp ://IP of the N3200 : opens a window with all the N3200 shared folders in "alias" mode. Nothing is possible.

logging to ftp ://IP/sharedfolder ( where sharefolder is a real folder shared by the N3200) I can see the content... and the content dispalys all the files I've tryed to copy earlier in AFP mode. But those files are 0k each.

    To end :
when using RemoteBrowser (a ftp utility for os x) wich as complete ftp commands, I cannot log into the shared folders and nothing is possible. I remain in the root folder with aliases of the shared folders.
    Transcript window shows :

    /raid/usertest

    ==>[8](72)
550 Can't change directory to /raid/usertest: No such file or directory

Sorry for the long and not so "english compliant" post.

    Help welcome.

I've found AFP to be unreliable during long transfers I did during initial migration. I've since switched to SMB for the time being, which works as expected. I would like to use AFP properly at some point though.

Re: N3200Pro and weird ftp/afp access

    Ok, thanks for your answer.

I'm focusing on ftp, even with mac, I want to get rid of mounting volumes.
I've shellscripts that handle cleaning/backuping operations, even without user logged
I've no SMB on my network

The last message I got "/raid/....." sounds more like a raid problem. I guess the 3200 has improper raid parameter so it cannot set his root properly... but I'm really not an expert.

Re: N3200Pro and weird ftp/afp access

    Hello,

    Problems are gone.

After some mail between the Thecus support and I, the problem is solved.

I reset to factory, update the firmware to last 1.00.03.4 (twice) and rebuildt the raid5 (twice too)
recreate from scratch all my settings... and now it works perfectly with FTP and AFP.

    Great thanks to Thecus support.
