    N5200Pro: NFS access from XP

I have the N5200Pro and I want to know how to map to it from Windows XP using NFS. Here is what I have done so far:

    On the N5200Pro:
    - Enabled NFS
    - Created a folder ("myfolder") and made it "Public" and "Browseable"
    - Set NFS on "myfolder" to hostname *, writeable, Unix/Linux, full access (root:root)
    - Created a user ("myuser") with the same username and password as my Windows XP account

    On XP:
    - Installed Services for Unix 3.5
    - FTP'd to the N5200Pro and copied etc/passwd, etc/shadow, etc/group to c:\
    - Under SFU UNM pointed to c:\passwd and c:\group
    - Under SFU UNM chosen "Simple Map"
    - Browsed under Entire Network to "myfolder" on my N5200Pro

I am prompted for a username and password and nothing works.

On another folder that I created on the N5200Pro I get the message \\n5200\raid0\data\testfolder is not accessible. You might not permission to use this network resource. The network path was not found.

How can I get this share working? Thanks!

    No

Why would anyone want to connect using NFS and XP?

Use the native feature, ie, CIFS.

    NFS is for Linux

Re: N5200Pro: NFS access from XP

    Hi Musicmax,

I just started looking into this today. I have a N5200 & a N7700. Im trying with NFSaxe. the is a trial version which last for only 30 mins b4 then you have to restart it. but if it works which i have not succeded yet in doing it might be worth it. Im a bit of a noob in the NFS area. You might have more success. There are a few NFS tools with it that shows that the thecus is sending out NFS details.

I want to see if NFS is faster in file transfers. I get crap speeds writing to both units. max 23mb/sec currently on gigabit. Thats also with a x-over direct to unit. Using atto desk bench mark says it can do alot higher like 60mb/s but when it comes to real files I cant get these speed.

So if you have any success do tel.

    Cheers

Re: N5200Pro: NFS access from XP

I use cifs, gig network, HP pro-curve switches and am hitting 60MB/s easily with large files. Raid is set up as XFS

Smaller files using drag, etc, gets 35-44mB/s

Copying from raid to usb drive connected to N7700, using drag files, gets me 18-22mB/s but remember, that is 18-22 out and 18-22 in, using that method.

NFS to my Linux box, gets about 34mB/s max

    FYI, YMMV

Re: N5200Pro: NFS access from XP

I would just like to get NFS working. Windows has "Services For UNIX" which includes NFS, therefore Microsoft expects somebody to have such a configuration. I would just like to get it working.

I got it working. UID and GID set to 99, and the N5200 needed entries in the /etc/hosts file to do Reverse DNS.
