    RAID Migration Woes

    Hi all,

Hope someone can help me with this problem.

    I have a N5200BR which had 5 x 320GB HDD arrange in RAID 5.

Recently I purchase 5 new 750GB disk to increase capaciity and went through the long process of swapping out the drives one by one. This process went well.

I clicked expand the array and was given the option to expand the array by x%, from which I chose 58% (ie use all free space). Now this took all of a about 10 seconds! A quick check of the Logs shows

    2008/05/27 08:33:08 N5200BR : Expansion Start [ RAID ] [ RAID5 ].
    2008/05/27 08:33:14 N5200BR : [Expansion Fail] LVM-lv stop fail ...
    2008/05/27 08:33:14 N5200BR : [Expansion Fail] Resize file system fail ...
    2008/05/27 08:33:14 N5200BR : [Expansion Fail] Umount data volume fail ...
    2008/05/27 08:33:15 N5200BR : [Expansion Fail] Mount data volume fail ...
    008/05/27 08:33:15 N5200BR RAID resize successfully.
    2008/05/27 08:33:19 N5200BR : Expansion End [ RAID ] [ RAID5 ].

    Now, the RAID information shows

RAID Status Used Disks Total Data
    Level Disks Capacity Capacity

    5 Healthy 1,2,3,4,5 2787 GB 855.5 GB / 1139.3 GB

And the pie chart show 100% used. WTF? Where's the 1.6TB of storage gone?

Any ideas how to fix this?

I am on FW 2.0.0.8 BTW.

    Re: RAID Migration Woes

    Hi,

Too bad no real solution for this one, as I have got the same thing (only on a Thecus 1u4500 unit).
    Here is what I did:
    1. migrated from 2 disks(750GB) RAID-1 to 4 disks(750GB) RAID-5 (on firmware 2.0.0.1)
    2. there was the space problems (not growing), so I upgraded to firmware 2.0.0.4
    3. selected Expand RAID
    4. got the same errors as tinroof
    5. now I can no longer write to the thecus unit saying not enough disk space.

Is there any chance I can recover from this?

    Thanks

    Re: RAID Migration Woes

I am having the same issue.

    I submitted a ticket (YVU-298723).

Who ever responded did not read my ticket properly. He advised me to do a migration not an expand when I add a drive.

Obvisouly I had already said in my ticket that I had already done the migration and was now doing the expand to use all the new space.

Yvon, could you get someone to look into this for me?
