ASUSTeK Computer Inc.-Support-
(hope you dont take another 6 months )
Thanks for the information re the drivers, since then I have been attempting to solve the problem of the lack of sound . Have not yet succeeded,it would seem the drivers I have downloaded are not quite the right ones for the computer. I am not sure why and am still going through the process of checking for the reasons. Will keep in touch. The reason for my absence of six months, if anyone anyone is interested , were really beyond my control but suffice to say I am much better now and able to spend some time not much , working the computer. Once agai thanks to those who are keen to help, all is much appreciated.
I am using Microsoft Windows XP Professional, version5.1.2600 Service Pack 2 Build
2600 which does not appear to have been listed. Any further advice forthcoming please

can you check in the control panel > add/remove programs and see if there are any audio drivers installed please?
if you find any uninstall them and try the file again from the link i put up ?
I see no audio drivers as having been installed The rport produced by the computer is as follows "multimedia audio controller PCI\Ven_1106Dev_
3059&SUBSYS_810F1043REV_60\3&267A616A&0&8D The driver for this device
not installed
Any other suggestions ?
Of course the problem I have still exists. I did visit the w/site provided by
Gonzo, it listed winxp but not the version of the os on my computer. Anuhow I did download one but was not able to install it I am still looking for a kind soul
to help. I have noticed others with a similar problem who have solved theirs. Perhaps I am doing something wrong, I am new to the game as it were, very anxious though to learn
are you sure you downloaded this file ?
dlsvr01.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/sock754/K8V-MX/SoundMAX512015150.zip
you need to add http:// at the start, it wont let me post the link
just the winXP ones, there the ones for you
yes i did download the programme you mention but I just could not install it. Half way through it would cut out and display the message to reboot and then try again. Did this several times without success. Could this be due to the version of the OS on my computer which is 5.1.2600 Service Pack 2 Build 2600 being different.I do appreciate your continuing efforts to resolve another's problem . I have tried two local experts (?) without much success, hence the reason for my looking to the internet. I am sure this is where the answer lies, a matter of perseverance
Have you plugged speakers into the computer?
Have you turned them on?
Have you tried altering the volume on the speakers?
Have you checked the volume settings in Windows?
Have you tried plugging the speakers into OTHER holes in the back to make sure you got the right one?
Have you tried running driver update though Windows system Device Manager?
Have you tried Windows update?
Have you looked at the BIOS to see if onboard sound is enabled?
Have you searched Google to see if anyone else has problems with this mobo?
Obvious questions, but my dad is a pensioner, so I'm asking you the same questions I asked him when he had this problem, on the assumption that you didn't chose your user name for comedy value.
the answer to most of your question is - yes, have been warned not fiddle with the BIOS, know nothing about it's workings. Unable to turn up the volume there being no audio device and for this to function need the relevant drivers, which seems to be the crux of the problem. The choice of name seemed obvious, for I am a pensioner and it immediately came to mind when joining the forum, no
other reason. Not being familiar with the inner workings I am open to try all suggestions. The problem has been with me now for more than a year and the last resort is to buy another , which I have so far resisted, the computer has been rarely used and is not yet 3 years old- for the moment I am prepared to persevere
right click my computer icon and press manage from the menu that pops up
in the computer managment window click device manager, and on the right you should see all the hardware installed.
do you see any yellow warning triangles in there, if so what does it say next to it ?
