    page_fault_in_nopage_area

I'm a PC noob....a MAC user for 20yrs, so forgive any idiotic comments!
Bought components for just a gaming rig last week from YOYO:

    MOBO: ASUS P5N32E-SLI
    CPU: INTEL CORE 2 QUAD Q6600 2.4Ghz
    GRAPHICS: ASUS EN8800GTX 768MB
    RAM: 2x1024MB OCZ 2P800R22GK DDR2 800 (PC6400) PLATINUM XTC
    PSU:COOLMASTER 700W RealPower Pro V2.91

    HDD:400GB SEAGATE SATAII
    DVDRW/RAM: NEC AD7170S-OB

PROBLEM: Having spent countless hours trying to get started i am now ok or at least NEARLY!
I can now get past the BIOS and into WXP, have updated to new bios.
However i frequently get the STOP message: page_fault_in_nopage_area
I have successfully installed the supplied Ghost Recon game and also installed COD4. BUT...whenever i try to play i get as far as the title page and then the stop message.
I have checked the web and this is more often than not a memory problem but could be hardware.
I have removed one stick at a time, swapped positions etc...no change.

Does the fact that i can force the problem by running a CD/DVD point to the DVD drive?

If it is memory related, do i HAVE to tweek the voltages etc in order to run successfully (as a MAC user i am used to plug and Play)?

Or, is the memory incompatible (my guess)

Ant thoughts gratefully recieved...this is an xmas prezzy:not very impressive if it doesn't work!!!!

    Re: page_fault_in_nopage_area

hi there, looking at your set up, my first guess would be memory not set up correctly...
with most high end memory you need to change the voltages and timings in the bios to get them to work stable ....
how to do this would be in the motherboard manual, or give us a ring on 0870 027 11 26 and one of our tech's can talk you through it....

    thanks

A bit cheeky asking to ring a premium rate line!

I would suggest you download coretemp to check your cpu temperature just in case its overheating... report back your temps here, it should be less than 60 when under load

Also make sure the memory voltage is set to 2.1v in the bios and then run this from boot... let memtest loop for a couple of hours... there should be no errors otherwise the memory is faulty.

    Re: page_fault_in_nopage_area

Many thanks YOYO for prompt reply. Your office is closed though.
And thanks SIM, i have set the memory V to 2.1, downloaded the core temp utility but am utterly confused by what to download from MEMTEST!!!!
I have NO floppy, and the options seem to be in an ancient dialect of Geordie or suchlike!!!
    Advice please........

    Re: page_fault_in_nopage_area

Download this, burn iso image to CD-R, boot computer with this CD-R in the drive. You might need to change the boot order in the bios.

Alternatively you can do it from a USB pendrive - which unfortunately, I do not know how to do.

What temps are you getting with core temp? Did you remember to apply cpu thermal paste?

    Re: page_fault_in_nopage_area

    THX SIM.
    Core temp: 36-41
Didn't apply paste as i am using the CPU supplied fan and that was already prepared (?)
Did buy an ACTIC fan though, but thought the Intel supplied would be ok.

Have downloaded the memtest....gonna try and burn etc....i will report back...and thanks!

    Re: page_fault_in_nopage_area

temps look fine... you are right the supplied fan usually has paste on it, so no problem there...
Is this thee temps when you are doing something processor intensive? Also it might be a good idea to check gpu temps if it only crashes whilst playing games...

It might be a good idea to repost this in the hardware forum - there are people here who know a lot more about this than me who can help you more...

Also you may as well run chkdsk on your drives to see if there is any problem with the hard disks

    Re: page_fault_in_nopage_area

Page faults are usually caused by a fault with RAM or hard drives. You should run memtest and also download SeaTools from Seagate to test your hard drive.

    Re: page_fault_in_nopage_area

All sorted! Thx to tech guy at YOYOTECH. Adjust memory voltage BEFORE installation of windows!
    (what a dummy)
Many thanks to all who helped.

PS Wouldn't it be a good idea for memory manufacturers to highlight voltage requirements on the packs???
