    8800GS or should I .....?

    Hello,

    Pentium (R) D CPU 2.80GHz , 2.79GHz
    1.50 GB RAM
    450w PSU
    6200 LE PCI-E

After doing some research I've decided on upgrading to a 8800GS.

HOWEVER, should I spend the extra £20 for a 8800GT? Or is my system not able to handle the 8800 series and should I go with a 8600GTS?

7900 series seem almost impossible to fine. I figured I would got with a Dx10 card. My PSU has 30ish amps per rail (I think) so it should be able to handle a 8800. I plan to upgrade to 2GB of RAM next month.

    Any thoughts are most welcome.

theres no new 7900 cards so your best bet to find them will be ebay, and I think maybe you'll need to upgrade your psu to run a 8800gs, but if you want a gt you'll definately need to upgrade the psu.

I've read some of these cards need 6pin PCI-E connectors?

Will the card come with an adapter so you can use the 4 pin molex?

I am not sure if they do (don't think they do) could be wrong bought a GTS at Xmas and I cannot find the box which it came in to check.

An adapter is only about £2-£3 and if you do upgrade your PSU you won't need one

Looks like I'm gonna have to give in and buy a new PSU.

I thought I could be mizerly and I switched my PSU with the kids PSU. Their's was 450W but I just looked and it has no PCI-E power connector.

I found a decent one (I think) on Ebuyers so guess I'll do that.

I just hope my CPU will be able to take advantage of the 8800 GT's power?

The 8800 GT is the star buy and well worth the extra few quid, however you will need to upgrade your power supply not because of the connections but because it will struggle to power the GT and your system temp will sky rocket.
