Question re overclocking on my Asus P5B motherboard and 550Watt PSU

    Hi guys,

I have a 2.8ghz dual core pentium in my pc and i currently have it overclocked to 3.3ghz (with a temperature of 55celsius).

Now when i attempt to overclock it anymore with the Asus overclock software the pc restarts as normal, then it switches back on and then promptly switches off, then switches on then off promptly, then it siwtches on and everything powers up (hard drives wurring etc) but i get nothing on my tft monitor.

Why is this, does this mean i need a higher wattage PSU?

In my previous role with ATI, we used to run a ton of overclocking stuff during the course of a year

e.g. launch new mainboard - fly Macci, Sampsa or Kinc in to put it through its paces in front of a live press audience

[Nostalgia creeps in as I remember being in Ibiza for an event when the guys decided to get rid of surplus LN2 by dumping some in the swimming pool and creating a mini (1m across) ice rink]

Anyway, the point of this post is that any number of components could be causing the issue and it is really tiresome/expensive for you to work out which one is the issue

When the guys we knew did this stuff, they would have LOADS of spare EVERYTHING and happily chop and change when they hit an issue

Maybe there are some guys on Hexus who could advise you better, but I really think that this one could be too costly/expensive to resolve

    That's me 10p worth

Overclocking can be really simple - and it can also become very hard

The advantage that the top guys have (or people working for manufacturers) is that they can just 'pick up another one' from stores and try again

The 'one' being whatever they think might have failed

They can also run multiple rigs - so you have a baseline system that you know 100% works - so it is much easier to identify components which are actually completely fried and ones which have just 'feinted' temporarily

You need an OC expert to hand hold you really...

...probably worth you cross-posting to another part of Hexus where they have more of that kind of question
