    Less is/was more !

Went into the store today to buy meself the Antec NeoHE 550

However, after 10 minutes discussing the options with Kul, I actually walked out with the 430 watt version

    Lower wattage
    ...cos my components are un-demanding

    Lower power bills
OK - marginal - but there will be a difference 3 years done the line

    Lower noise
Which is what I was after anyway - and the 430 has less energy to convert/lose

    ...most amazing ?...

    Lower price
Assuming that YOYOTech have a similar marging on all products - selling me a cheaper device means that they make less money

Hats off to any retailer or web shop that talks you out of spending money - it makes a refreshing change in this day and age...

Jokes aside, I really respect operations that will take less money but give you a more suitable product...

Would be really cool if they went down to the end of Oxford Street sometime - had a look at Richer Sounds (link below) and nicked some of their ideas...

    ...like 'free lollipops'

Wattage doesn’t matter when it comes to the cost of ownership. A PSU will only ever use what it needs. It’s all about efficiency; this is the only thing which matters when it comes to saving money in electricity. So I hope that the PSU was sold on the basis of having a higher efficiency rating, othwerwise it will cost you more in the long run, regardless of its maximum output rating . Then again, if this is the same brand, just a different model, it wont relly be an issue
Of course, efficiency is directly linked to noise levels too in most cases. The more efficient it is = less heat = less RPM fan needed = lower noise

    Wow - really ?

    That seems so counter intuitive

You'd imagine that a bulb which is doing/giving 1000w would naturally have a different draw from one that is doing/giving 60w

When you are bored - maybe you can enlighten the thickos among us !
(genuine request for knowledge - no piss take !)

As far as efficiency goes, on another site that I have faith in (but I won't link it cos DR will get aggitated)...

...they rate the 430 and 550 as follows:-

    550w
    266w load 87.5%
    339w load 76.4%
    dBA 32.9

    430w
    266w load 89%
    339w load 77.4%
    dBA 30.6

    Both pretty good I'd say

You will probably have changed the PSU well before then.

well i would have gone with the PSU with the most amps on the fewest 12V rails I could afford.

even if you have 1Kw PSU and your system nly used 500W the PSU will only draw 500W from the mains.
