Tempt me out of some money, i need disk space!

Running out of space, so i figure i should probably just double the size of my current filebox. (my recent ownership of hifi means re-ripping CDs, but only using flac now!)

How much can you do me 1TB worth of HDDs for

Basically, i don't mind much if its 300gig, or 500. As long as its not WD.

its not been RAID'd so it could be odds n sods!

SATA or PATA, agian what ever is cheapest, speed isn't an issue here, its purely music.

    instore pickup too.

Do you really want your lifetime collection on a single drive? Of course it can be done, but we ask you to imagine the worst case scenario. You have spent over a year amassing a 1TB collection of totally legal material when, one morning, your system refuses to boot. Cue big box of tissues and data-loss-support-team-hug. The tech guys at our store will tell you exactly, but I think I am right in saying that 3x500GB drives in a RAID array can give you 1TB of usable storage (data-data-backupbits). That kind of solution will set you back upwards of £321 if you use Seagate Baraccuda drives with 16mb buffer. Doing the same thing with 4x320GB Hitachi Deskstar drives (data-data-data-backup) will cost you around £228. Obviously, you need a set up that supports this and you also need to look at how the rebuild will work if you do have a failure. Give our guys a call today and we will discuss the options with you.

Yes one can have parity RAIDs, i use that on my desktop (RAID-5, of 6 drives) gives nice speed as well as redundancy.

But been serious, i do own most of the CDs i've ripped now, and anything i don't, been purely GPL'd is backed up on friends boxes!

I was too busy today too call, and i've got this nasty fealing i'm going to end up in frankfurt tommorow. So looks like it will have to be sunday... I've 400meg free
