DRM: Does WMP11 disable print screen ?...

I have tried this a lot of different ways - but there seems to be an issue for me accessing the clipboard when Windows Media Player 11 is running

Press 'print screen' - change to another program - try to paste - nothing

Close Windows Media Player 11 - Hey Presto - it works - pasting to me heart's content

I remember Microsoft's Nick McGrath telling me a few years ago that DRM-type issues would extend to Windows in a few years and that they planned to take control of the 'Print Screen Button'...

...am I experiencing this now - or it is a simple case of PEBCAK ?

Bear in mind that any media player will make use of video overlays, so the image from the video will not appear in any screenshot unless the video player specifically supports it. Why not try with another screen shot tool such as GIMP.

Why did you ask this in the yoyo tech forum?

You can go into tools>options>performance and put the slider all the way to the left, then restart media player and you will be able to take screenshots. Bear in mind videos with a high amount of data (bitrate) will possibly slow down with the options at these settings so if you do encounter this just put the slider back up again.

The part that made me suspicious was that I did not have this issue with Media Players up to v10

I am not after a screen grab from the video stream - I mean any kind of screen grab from any other application
Again, all worked well up to Media Player 10
Install 11 - then suddenly Windows gets 'funny' about the clipboard
I know that Microsoft were planning to make 'print screen' a more limited function in the future - just wondered if this was the start

Did you install the "update for DRM enabled players" that was on as a software update a while back.

Sure I saw something in there about screenshots and DRM...don't quote me tho

EDIT: why do ya always post in YoYoTech's forum? lol

Maybe its to stop license information being spread or something.....

They aren't limited print screen in vista (at least in the betas) there was a really advanced screen capture application in addition to print screen.

The thing is, if you post in the yoyo tech forum, (or any of the other care forums), and ask for recommendations, especially for hardware, or the discussion goes that way, we cannot post links to any other vendors, even if yoyo tech don't sell the product we are linking to.

I would say that if your thread specifically relates to yoyo tech, the service you get from them, or the like, then by all means post in their forum, but for any other type of thread, please post in a more general forum, so that we are less constrained in what we can say.
