Um... anyone know anything about fishing?

    Guys,
Bought a new house earlier in the year. Have been through the sheds (4 of 'em) and found various stuff which i'm about to put up for sale on ebay.

However, found a set of 9 fishing hooks, which look pretty smart. I know nothing about fishing, but I'm sure one of you does.

    www.lawboy.co.uk/ebay/hooks2.jpg

    Mepps Aglia running from 0 (x2), 1 (x3), 2 (x3) and 3 (x2).

I've looked on the internet and modern ones fetch a few quid a piece, but these appear to be "vintage", from the "british and french patent" thing. Each has a 3 prong hook on it which is razor sharp.

Anyone know if they're worth much?

They were in a box with a newspaper from 1936. Don't think they're that old, though. The HOUSE isn't that old.

Re: Um... anyone know anything about fishing?

They might be worth a few bob to a collector, but I don't think they've got much inherent value to themselves. You'd need to have them looked at by an expert to be sure, though; Mepps Aglia means nothing to me...

Nice collection though - they're lures rather than just hooks, also known as spinners or spoons, and they're used mainly for pike fishing (although you can catch pretty much any species that will prey on injured fish with them). If I still fished I'd have them off you in a flash...

Can I propose that in addition to the "thanks" button, we add a "groan" button for puns like that, please?

Couldn't you 'hook' up with someone locally who could tell you something about them?

Read title as 'fisting'. Not sure why I clicked. Relieved, really.
