    Oh, thank Duck for that.

Not that I'm keen on Clinton. I mean, her winning has one, and I mean exactly one, thing in it's favour, and that is that she's not Trump.

Donald Duck is a huge improvement on either. Higher IQ too.

Re: Not a single thread on the US election?

Well, kinda went to bed thinking expecting to see this in the morning so I guess that I am less shocked than I was with Brexit.

Another forum I frequent, with an "atmosphere" not far off YouTube's comment section (hardly moderated, and lots aggressive OTT comments - basically much of the Internet outside Hexus and select others), was strongly in favour of Brexit and mostly in favour of Trump. Though many if not most of the members there are too young to vote, I can't help but wonder a vote against the "established order" is the in thing (even more so than in the past), and lead to politics in 2016 be what it is.

That option did exist. I, along with about 3% of my fellow citizens, took it. But fear is a far better tool of control than hope will ever be.

Re: Not a single thread on the US election?

    Hello
I've been reading Scott Adams' (Dilbert man) blog with many posts about why Trump would win and Adams had me persuaded me that Trump was going to win a year ago - so no surprise for me about the result.
Only regret is that I didn't put a bet on when it was 9/2 two weeks ago.
Shame I'm not a brickie by trade.
    Cheers

wow. Just wow. So, next on the dictator trail will be the oppression of civil liberties, censoring of freedom of speech and a move to silence/outlaw political opposition. Watch this space folks - if that starts to happen then we're all well and truely forked. And yes, Europe needs to pull its finger out and start investing in defence double-quick.

Re: Not a single thread on the US election?

Why are people so surprised?? I expected him to win - look at how many in this country idolise Farage even though he contradicted himself, etc. He even moaned at Obama for interfering here and then helped Trump out.

The far right have been gaining strength everywhere - people mocked me when I said this was happening(remember Clinton is pretty right wing already).

TBH,democracy in most countries tends to be a rotating dictatorship based on two parties anyway.

Of course it is. With the amount of reporting going on these days raising awareness to new levels, plus some of the outrageous political decisions (benefits, spying, rendition etc) that have been made, compounded by the natural (almost accelerated) progression of capitalism (it starting to feel like a few companies own everything), trying to recover from a recession that was caused by the greed of the rich......people want to break out of the endless cycle. Most don't know how or know what model would be better but voting for "the same old" is not on the cards at this time. People want change, this much is becoming crystal clear.

can i edit that- A brief glance shows white, poorly educated people who think they are Christians are big Trump supporters. People can self-identify as a religion without actually adhering to its teachings or knowing the God they claim to follow.
