Exclamation New HIS 6950, Driver Problem??? Display Driver Stopped Responding?

    Hi All

I have upgraded to the new HD6950 and already having problems
Keep getting the bellow message after i try to maximise windows or at random where every thing will crash for about 7 seconds then screen will go black for 3 seconds then get the error below?

I have tried reinstalling the AMD drivers but this is not working?
This is the driver i am using "10-12_vista64_win7_64_dd_ccc_enu"?
    http://sites.amd.com/us/game/downloa...n_win7-64.aspx

Also used a crash analyser as been getting BSOD.

Is any one else having problems likes this with the drivers or this card?

Thanks for your time and help.

    Conclusion
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

4 crash dumps have been found and analyzed. 3 third party drivers have been identified to be causing system crashes on your computer. It is strongly suggested that you check for updates for these drivers on their company websites. Click on the links below to search with Google for updates for these drivers:

atikmpag.sys (AMD multi-vendor Miniport Driver, Advanced Micro Devices, Inc.)

If no updates for these drivers are available, try searching with Google on the names of these drivers in combination the errors that have been reported for these drivers and include the brand and model name of your computer as well in the query. This often yields interesting results from discussions from users who have been experiencing similar problems.

Read the topic general suggestions for troubleshooting system crashes for more information.

Note that it's not always possible to state with certainty whether a reported driver is actually responsible for crashing your system or that the root cause is in another module. Nonetheless it's suggested you look for updates for the products that these drivers belong to and regularly visit Windows update or enable automatic updates for Windows. In case a piece of malfunctioning hardware is causing trouble, a search with Google on the bug check errors together with the model name and brand of your computer may help you investigate this further.

Re: New HIS 6950, Driver Problem??? Display Driver Stopped Responding?

Going from bad to worse, now in device manager it will only show as a standard VGA Graphics card?
Even after removing all the drivers off with driver sweeper.

    Running out of ideas....

Re: New HIS 6950, Driver Problem??? Display Driver Stopped Responding?

    I'm thinking you've got a dodgy one.

Assuming it's getting all the power it's wanting (and ATI cards normally beep at your on POST if they don't have the 6/8-pin connectors), then all I can think of is a faulty card.

I'd try the obvious reseating of it all and things before initiating an RMA, but I think I'd be starting the RMA process.

Try using the 10.12a drivers, they are for 69xxx series cards, see if they work.

Re: New HIS 6950, Driver Problem??? Display Driver Stopped Responding?

Glad they worked. One of the main issues I have with Radeon cards is the problems with drivers, they can never get them right first time. Thats coming from someone with a 5850 (soon to be another in crossfire)

Cheers again, Running 95% better.... no longer getting problems in windows desktop but games when loading make sound like it has crashed (repeating sound) then screen goes purple for 2 seconds then works ok?

Dam AMD knew this would be a problem as never had this with Nvidia.... Shame as the drivers seem to be the only part AMD struggle on.

Re: New HIS 6950, Driver Problem??? Display Driver Stopped Responding?

Not sure what i should do now, as still getting error where it stops responding in Windows and in game, at start of loading game it will crash and screen will go purple then white then after another 45 seconds starts working fine?

Is this a driver problem? Should i wait for the next batch of drivers from AMD or should i think of sending this card back as its nuts and and i can not expect me to put up with this?

Re: New HIS 6950, Driver Problem??? Display Driver Stopped Responding?

I would go have a look on the AMD forums, see if others are experiencing a simialr problem to you with the same card and the 10.12a driver pack, if so then it could well be a driver issue - new card, new software problems.

I now see i am not alone
Only solution i have found on forums so far is to send it back and get a 570
Not sure i really want to spend that much as great card when it works.....

Re: New HIS 6950, Driver Problem??? Display Driver Stopped Responding?

I have been talking with HIS Tech support and they told me to use drivers from their site and still having no joy. Have also taken the card out and installed in another PC that is similar spec and still getting same problems.

Would it be better sending the card back before i have had it 28days or should i wait till the end of the month when new drivers are released...???

Re: New HIS 6950, Driver Problem??? Display Driver Stopped Responding?

If you've tested it in another system and it does the same thing then definitely RMA it. Perhaps last resort download driver sweeper, uninstall anything ati, boot into safe mode, run driver sweeper, boot into windows and install drivers from there.

You are not more likely to get ATI driver issues than Nvidia unless running beta ones.

You are not more likely to get ATI driver issues than Nvidia unless running beta ones.
Well thats what i thought at first but after being told to check out the AMD forums alot of people seem to be having this problem, but at the end of the day i don't think im prepared to put up with it much longer. As im now using my 7950GT and my nice new £220 6950 is just sitting in a box : (

Google 580 crash and you'll see that the grass is not always greener. (Ouch - sorry). New products all have their different issues.
    Society's to blame,
    Or possibly Atari.

Malice your error is a known issue:

    http://hardforum.com/showpost.php?p=...3&postcount=97

Give these latest 11.1a Catalyst drivers a go (they are officially released tomorrow the 26th of January)

    http://www2.ati.com/DRIVERS/hotfix/c...Win7_Jan26.exe

I'm sure I read there was a fix for people having problems with the 6900 series of cards.

Good luck and let us know how you get on with them

I think you've just got to accept it's a duff card, bite the bullet and RMA. It happens to electronics.
