    List of DRM-Free PC Games

I created this thread for anyone who doesn't like to have DRM software on their system so anyone who knows of any games that ship without DRM please post here! Also please state if there is only a certain version of the game that is DRM free.
    Thanks

To get things started, I have a copy of Splinter Cell Chaos theory without DRM - it's the one with Ubisoft Exclusive and Focus Essential at the bottom of the case. AFAIK the original version had Starforce.

Edit: Games which include DRM on purchase but can be removed by a patch are also welcome on this list but please state if this needs to be done. Also I suppose you could post games with a disc check but make sure that's made clear in your post so people can decide for themselves if that's OK. Thanks.

Re: List of DRM-Free PC Games

Can I ask, restrict your posts in this thread to game suggestions please.

If you've got general comments about DRM, or questions about specific games or implementations, can we do it in another thread, and leave this one for JUST DRM-free games lists. Otherwise, the actual suggestions will get lost in the chatter.

    Thanks.

Re: List of DRM-Free PC Games

I'm pretty sure that the original version of Oblivion shipped without any DRM, just a simple CD check. I'm not sure about the GOTY version though, that could be different.

And for what it's worth, Dangerous Waters, an excellent modern submarine warfare simulator, and the true successor to 688i Hunter-Killer, ships without any DRM at all, not even a CD check... it's a very good game, but not a genre that appeals to many people.

Re: List of DRM-Free PC Games

Just to be sure, how are we defining DRM in this list? A disk check is DRM by the strict definition.

Also are you including games which install the DRM but which you can patch later to remove the check (though the DRM software may remain on your computer from installation for example)?

Diablo II: Installs with DRM, patch removes - unknown if any DRM remains on system unused by game.

NWN: Installs with DRM, patch removes - likely some DRM remains on system unused.

The Witcher: Installs with DRM, patch removes - DRM remains on system but can be completely removed via Tages uninstaller.

    Lego Star Wars: No DRM.

Spot on. This is a wicked idea and I'd hate to see it spiral downward into a discussion about DRM in general, keep it up guys

    Yes, but not yet.

A lot of people tend to miss stickys, and it'll get more activity, at least for a while, unstickied. If someone nudges me, or if I notice, I'll sticky it once natural activity dies down and it starts dropping.

Re: List of DRM-Free PC Games

A lot of Stardock games, all IIRC, are DRM-free.

I'm impressed that EA are letting C&C4 be DRM free, even though you have to be online all the time to play.
