How do you update your BIOS?

Things have moved on apace these days with the Floppy Disk not being the only player in town any more when it comes to the potentially PC killing BIOS update process. Steps forward have also been made in making a b0rkD BIOS update recoverable, whereas it used to be terminal, unless you could get a new BIOS chip or get someone to flash it for you.

So, how do you do yours?

Re: How do you update your BIOS?

With the Intel board I've gone over to using the ISO image they provide, updating from within windows still makes me cringe tbh, although I'm lead to believe it's less hazardous than it used to be.

I use the @Bios tool that came with the mobo. It's worked both times I've used it no problems.

Very carefully - and only if essential - using the mfrs tools, and with the computer connected to a UPS.

Re: How do you update your BIOS?

For desktops I normally boot dos, then do the flash from a fat hard disk. For my proliant machines, I use HPs flash update disk which infact runs Linux!

Re: How do you update your BIOS?

The tools to flash from within the OS seem fine now, have been using them without problems for 2-3 years now.

Re: How do you update your BIOS?

Using the flash util built into the BIOS with the new file on a USB stick when possible.

Booting off of a USB stick on boards without the flash util built in.

I use the utility on my Asus mobo combined with a good USB stick. Works everytime...doesn't stop me from praying to all open channels that the power doesn't go off though.
