Yeah that looks like the one. Note that that Freezer 7 LP is less effective than the stock C2D cooler which you already have according to that FrostyTech table, sorry if I seem to keep banging on about it but since you already have a C2D cooler you'd probably be better off just using that.

If you've got that U1 cooler CAT I'd use that, mount a fan on top.

If you're that worried about the VRM's drill some holes in the bottom for air venting.

To mount a fan, you should be able to get away with standard self tapping screws (eg wood screws), they will force their way down between the fins, bitting into them and pushing them apart slightly.
This is how fans where mounted on the old copper amd heatsinks.


Or you could get one of thoes Zalman fan barcket arms, that works off the IO expansion slots

I will give a try modifying the 1U passive cooler first methinks! I do have a few 80MM and 92MM fans lying about so I will see how this goes.

The fan from my Intel E4500 stock cooler clips onto the 1U cooler without any problems!! The height is just over 60MM but the whole shebang might just fit!

Smack a low-RPM 120 or even 140mm (for better VRM cooling) and nothing else matters Too bad it's not out there yet

CAT I'musing the Zalman VF2000 with a Intel DG45FC mobo - I dont believe it overhangs the mobo at all - depends how you orient it when mounting. Great cooler for the size, and the included fan controller means no noise, just great cooling (and nice blue LED)

I found that the fan from the E4500 cooler was not sufficient to keep the CPU at a decent temperature.

However a 120MM Antec TriCool fan works much better! OTH,it is quite thick which means it may not be able to fit under the drive cage! Perhaps I need to get a 120MM Scythe Slip Stream.

The Zalman VF2000 does look like it will do the job quite nicely though but I will see if the DIY route will work as it will be cheaper!

I managed to modify the Shuttle case and fit the motherboard into the case. With the 120MM fan there is plenty of clearance under the drive cage!

I then shoe-horned the Shuttle PSU into the case but guess what?? The cables are way to short!!

The other SFF PSU I have has long enough cables but is too big!

I suck at case modding!

Personally I'd a thought a normal 80mm or 92mm would be better, with the narrow fins of the heat sink and the size of the 120mm I'd of thought pressure would be an issue.

I tried a couple of 92MM fans too and the 120MM seemed to be able to give similar cooling performance with lower noise. I will try some 80MM fans too.

Thanks for that. Looks an interesting alternative to the other fans as it could act as a system exhaust too.

A quick question!

I have the 200W PSU from a Hiper media centre chassis I am not using any more.

It does power up the PC but will I be stressing it too much??

The parts I will be using will be the following:

1.)Pentium D 920
2.)2X1GB DDR2
3.)A single SATA hard disk
4.)Nvidia 6600 or 8500GT
5.)One 120MM fan
6.)One 92MM fan

The PSU will power it all up but I am a bit worried I may blow it up!

The PSU model number is HPU-1N200 and it has the following output:
1.)3.3V -16 Amps
2.)5V - 12 Amps
3.)12V - 12 Amps

Looks like it can only supply around 120W from the 12V line!

The Pentium D eats up 95W itself.

Do you have a power meter to check AC power draw? I reckon you may be pushing it a little hard especially considering the discrete GPU.

I have not got hold of one of those yet - any decent models to look for?

The mini ITX motherboard has an Intel 945G IGP so perhaps if I run with the onboard graphics it maybe fine?

I have a Wintact 400W 1U unit but the only way I can mount in the case is to stick in the drive cage or loose the drive cage all together.

I just realised that I could use 20 pin and 4 pin ATX power extension cables for the 250W Shuttle PSU!!

What a Moose I am for not thinking about that earlier!

I used to run an XP2800 and a fully unlocked 6800LE off the same PSU so it should be fine at least for the Pentium D and the IGP!

With a 92MM intake fan and the cover on the Pentium D is hitting around 45C to 46C at idle. Even though it is a warm day is this too high a temperature?

What's it like under load? According to this the thermal spec of that CPU is 63.4C.

I have not loaded the OS yet. I am checking the temperature in the BIOS first.
