yep the shuttle cooler is a custom job along with the shuttle ITX motherboard, some of the newer cases are also now compatible with standard miniITX motherboards which make them a far better option than the older shuttles because you pay for that proprietary form factor.

For a cooler your best bet is to make/or have made a custom mounting kit, a back plate is nothing very complex, making a retention plate that can attach to your cooler is more complex, does depend on the cooler though.

I am toying with the idea of getting another mini-ITX motherboard ATM. I suspect a 65W Core2 would be easier to cool than a 95W Pentium 4!

I stumbled across this article a few days ago, that low-power i3 CPU looks great for a fairly powerful mITX system: http://www.missingremote.com/review/...tx-motherboard

I was considering getting a socket 1155 or 1156 Core i3 but if I can get a suitable socket 775 motherboard for around £50 it will be cheaper.

Re: More low profile cooler advice

I have decided to actually spend some more dosh and do a bigger upgrade.

ATM,it looks like either a socket 1156 or socket 1155 system is on the cards.

A socket 1156 system will be cheaper as I can the parts second hand but a socket 1155 system has a better upgrade path IMHO.

If would have been nice if AMD Llano was out but I want to get this system up and running in the next few weeks.

Re: More low profile cooler advice

    Righty-ho!

    I have bought a mini-ITX H67 motherboard,a Core i3 2100 and 4GB of DDR3.

I am going to use the PC40 PSU which originally came with the computer in late 2005:

    http://global.shuttle.com/product_de...pec.jsp?PI=428

However, the PSU only have one year of normal use until I bought my current Shuttle and was use for around a year to power a server. The rest of time it has had very little use.

It does provide 16A on the 12V line which should be fine if I use the IGP.
