Washing Up Brush's: I need a really good one

Fed up with ones that go bendy in really hot water.. fed up with ones that don't brush hard.

I've always like the Ikea Plastis.. and this bloke does too...

But I need a proper job.

Any suggestions? Don't mind buying a pack of 3 - 5 to get the value if needed.

To my shame, having never purchased one I can't give you scrubbing brush advice dude

But I can give you the ex-ninja kitchen porter opinion. If you can't get it off with a plastic scouring pad, or one of those old school metal jobs in really hardcore cases then you need hotter water. Burns heal but cleanliness is forever

Never use them. Always use a foam or metal scourer.

you see,, they don't "wear out".. not as such

some bend in hot water.....! some splay out like my legs on an ice rink!

Some discolour and never get clean again.....

some don't have scraping edges on the back.. for roasting tins.

it's a complex world.. someone MUST make good brushes.


It's like pastry brushes.. some LOOK great.. and the bristles fall out after one use! Others splay out like a crashed jelly and they're uselss after one use.. some you use, they get coated in butter.. and when you wash them, they clump together...

I've used the foam backed scourer pads for as long as I can remember. I generally just use the value ones, about 23p for a pack of 5. Can't see the point in a brush- you can apply as much or as little force as you need with a pad, without worrying about any bendy plastic.

But it's pretty rare that I need one at all now- I have a dishwasher, and I'm patient enough to soak stuff that needs soaking. When we decided to move house 5 years ago my one and only concern was whether the houses we were looking at had space for a dishwasher. They are brilliant, and I really can't believe that anyone who cooks and eats at home on a regular basis doesn't have one. In all honesty I would sell my computer, my DSLR, and possibly even my car before I'd go without a dishwasher.

I don't really like dishwashers.

I have one, always have... it's fine for cheap glass and crockery but none of my non stick pans go in it, cos it buggers them right up. It etches my glasses over time, ruining them. Well... the dishwashers doesn't.. the tablets do.

Back in the day I was also a kitchen porter. If you're stuck for something to scrape off roasting tins, use the top off a plastic coke bottle. It's sharp enough to remove the food, but won't scratch the non-stick stuff. Plus you're likely to have a few around anyway.

The showroom has loads of small items in it covering most of our "major" brands, its not as impressive as it sounds

Cheap Tesco brush is the one we use. Does the job fine
