Google/Android have some of the cool factor which is why they can actually compete with Apple.
Unfortunately true - which leads me to wonder how Microsoft are going to get that "cool" factor for their mobile products? Desktop it's different because if you buy a PC you've only really got a choice of Windows or a variant of Linux (yes I know MacOS will run on PCs, but you can't buy it on a PC except on a Mac), so it's really a captive market. Intel servers similarly (although I'll admit that there's Solaris too).

But mobile's a whole different kettle of fish - unless they're going to do something really clever with this idea that Windows 8 Desktop and Mobile are built on the same low level foundation ("Windows Everywhere"?). If there's no clever twist from MS then Windows 8 Mobile's "cool" factor has to be inherited from the manufacturers.

So maybe this new logo is not only for desktop, but also for tablets and phones - reinforcing the "One Windows" message.

Career status: still enjoying my new career in DevOps, but it's keeping me busy...

Can't see why they'd want to re-brand the logo, given how much people know the Windows logo you'd think they wouldn't want to change it up

Looks terrible, the logo doesn't work well at all on its own on a button like that, it looks wrong.

    And it's true.

Re: News - Is this the new Windows 8 logo?

I agree with the idea of changing to a window, seems logical, but why go so far?

The window faces away from us, seems like we are looking at the window from outside to me. Someone else pointed out that Vista/7 icons do the same thing: http://www.istartedsomething.com/200...the-wrong-way/
