Has the cost of Rock Band put you off?

Rock Band came out on the 360 last week, and what I thought would be one of the biggest titles of the year, seems to be awfully subdued.

So much so, that I've only seen one person on my friends list playing it.

Now, me personally, I love music games. Got GHII and GHIII, think they're both ace (do prefer II, though) and I've been looking forward to Rock Band.

But, despite knowing how much I'd love to play it, I can't warrant forking out so much money. I'm sure cheaper deals are available elsewhere, but I've just had a quick look on the GAME website and it's £129.99 for the instruments, and £49.99 for the game - £179.98 in total.

Mind you, we knew it was going to be extremely expensive in the UK, so this thread isn't about "holy sweet mother of...EA". I'm just wondering who else has been really looking forward to this game, only to find that you can't justify the purchase?

For me personally, the game would need to be around the £100 mark, inclusive of all instruments and game, for me to cough up for it.

Re: Has the cost of Rock Band put you off?

most high street stores are doing bundling deals (about £20 off game+instruments)

but remember, the instrument box only has 1 guitar in it, so for some of us, £160 isn't even the full thing

Re: Has the cost of Rock Band put you off?

I think HMV are doing the full kit for £140 and play around the £130 mark.

Even so, it's still to much in my humble opinion. I do want the game, but I'm happy to wait till I can get it for around the £100 mark.

Re: Has the cost of Rock Band put you off?

Nope the cost DID not scare me off at all - I got the kit from work on Friday and went home and battered the drums all weekend.

I unlocked nearly all the content on Friday by 12am and over the weekend mastered the drums on Medium and Hard for some songs as well as singing Rock and Roll star with the Mic hanging from the light so I could do the obligatory "Liam" stance with the hands behind the back

Now... to buy another guitar so I can play Lead or Bass while my mate(s) do the other

Re: Has the cost of Rock Band put you off?

I have to admit that the cost has stopped me making it a spur of the moment purchase, that's for sure. However, I think I am more interested in GH4, which I've heard is basically the same thing, but a better drum kit and your guitar from previous GH's should work with it as well. It will also probably be out about the same time as Rock Band on the PS3 (I've seen dates for this autumn for both).

I might hang on for GH4, I only really want the drums and the kit in GH4 looks a lot better than the rock band one.

£140 is still too much, I'll hold out until it hits the £100 point.
The kit for GH4 does look a lot better though...

Re: Has the cost of Rock Band put you off?

I'm more interested in GH4, the leaked pictures show better looking / designed kit and the user generated content sounds very good indeed. The song lineup in rock band also contains little that I'd want to play as well.

GH4 does look good, but isn't it said to retail at a higher price than Rock Band?

I've not heard any pricing rumours on it yet. I do hope it's not more than rock band though

Re: Has the cost of Rock Band put you off?

According to Joystiq, via US retailer, GameStop:
the game alone will cost $59.99 on PS3 and 360 ($49.99 on Wii and PS2), a "guitar kit" bundle will run you $99.99, and the full band kit (which we assume will contain a guitar, a mic, and a drum kit) will run you $189.99 on 360, Wii and PS3, and $179.99 on PS2.
That puts it at $20 more than Rock Band. But, from what I hear, Rock Band peripherals are a bit "cheap", so to say. The Guitar Hero kit might be a bit better, but then Rock Band seems to have all the DLC - not that I ever buy it.

To further confound matters, I remember reading that none of the Guitar Hero 4 and Rock Band peripherals will be compatible with one another. Therefore, if you've got Rock Band, you can't just pick up GH4, you'll need all of GH4's instruments too.

Seems we'll have to make a choice; spend a fortune on Rock Band and stick with the series, or, spend a fortune on Guitar Hero 4 and stick with the series.

They feel better than the GH3 guitar thats for sure.

The drums are rubber-topped and feel good even after the good thrashing session I gave them over the weekend.

The mic feels heavy and even though it's been smacked about on peoples heads, it's still working fine

Ask me again in 4 weeks after they've had a thrashing and I'll update it with images

Re: Has the cost of Rock Band put you off?

Well, you'd have to be a bit slow (or a Manc - sorry Lee ) to buy it at that price.

Why give a chunck of your money away for this cheaply made tat, and then another chunk for being British?

If it came with an aditional £43 jam tax, some of you would still buy it, no doubt.

And its not as if its the greatest game ev0r, I mean, it only got an 8.0 on IGN. Lower than Ninja Gaiden II, Grid, Uefa 2008. Plenty of better, cheaper games out recently...

Re: Has the cost of Rock Band put you off?

I paid 99 quid all in for the hardware kit so that's not as much as what other places are asking for it.

The game was given to me - so I've paid 99 quid for it and at that price I'm happy with the game. The only thing I can whinge about is the fact you only get 1 guitar controller as opposed to 2 which you need to take the full advantage of the game.

And you waited 6 months to play it after the Yanks.

Wait for ages, pay loads, get to pretend to be a member of some embarassing rock band from the 80s.

    What a game.

Mario, Master Cheif and Niko must be ****ting themselves.

    Anyway, have fun matey.
