    Draytek Customer Support is really quite special

    I've had my Vigor for over 6 months now, and I've had two problems with it. Once was when I could not activate Port Throttling (which is worth it's weight in gold) and it turned out that I was using Firefox to control the feature, and I should have been using IE.

    The other is that I have occassional drop out on my router when another PC boots up. It's quite random, but it winds me up a treat once a week when it does it.

    Both times I went to drayteks web site, filled in the (quite detailed) problem form, with serial number and a concisely worded descrition of the trouble, and both times a tech called Charie has replied with helpful, usefull fixes.

    This one was a case of me taking screen shots, and he just returned them to me with corrections for me to follow.

    I cannot begin to explain how good it feels to have such support just an email away.

    I second that ^^ Awesome customer service. E-mail's are replied within 15-20 mins (working hours) and explained very nicely!

    I third that. I've had Drayteks for several years now (2600We and now 2800G). I've only had to log a call once - it was a problem due to me not reading the readme file properly! Not only is the support prompt but it's actually useful! I also got a follow-up e-mail from the support engineer asking if everything was resolved to my satisfaction.

    I guess an element of the support costs are built into the product as Draytek gear tends to be on the expensive side.

    I contacted them once, again, should have read the manual. Even with basic problems they are always courteous and polite. Big thumbs up from me.

    They are by far the most feature packed routers this side of £1000. And they cost less than £200 with VOIP, wireless, content filtering, QoS, port throttling etc.
    However they can be a pain at times when you are trying unusual things with them.

    Nice to hear good things about Draytek.

    In the market to replace my Linksys - used to have an old 2200USB which was the only USB based router at the time.

    Routers are by far the best i've ever used. Bulletproof design, good software, well-thought out firmware update procedures.

    Read my mini-review on my latest Draytek, the 2800G (somewhere on this forum), for an idea about their routers. My old Draytek (a 2600We) is now doing sterling service at my parents' house - that also have never been rebooted.

    I think you have convinced me not to try to make my own router after all. I was looking at replacing my current Draytek 2600We with a fancy new box to get better wireless speeds and coverage but I think I'll just get a new 2800VG.

    Does anyone have any thoughts on the VoIP support? I don't have any great need for it but is it worth 30 extra? I was reading about the Zoom X5 which allows phone passthrough which means I could use the same phone for VoIP and to use VoIP i would just need to add a # to start of the number. I've been hunting around for a longer review but Taz's review has almost convinced me

    edit: just to add, I believe my current router must be about 3 years old now and I doubt many other routers last that long with minimum trouble

    I sent an email to Draytek about THE 2800G. They admitted that their router wouldn't be as fast as the one given to me by my ISP. I had an answer within 20 minutes and further questions were answered quickly.

    A THUMPS UP TO DRAYTEK.

    So far the only complaint I have is that draytek.com keeps resizing my browser...

    I like my browser size, stop playing with it! I've had to block javascript on their site to prevent it happening which hardly seems ideal. There are a few guides there that haven't made their way to the uk site but I don't think they are worth the trouble.
