I always use the K-Lite codec pack(which is also one of the most popular). has everything you could ever need. Alternatively, try the ace mega codec pack.
I do know everything, just not all at once. It's a virtual memory problem.
klite codec pack here too, usually the full or mega pack & then pick the options
I use the k-lite mega pack and choose playback only when installing.
Have only ever had a problem when reinstalling iTunes w/Quicktime and the Quicktime codecs getting confused.

None at all unless you want a nightmare of conflicting filter merits.
No need for anything other than ffdshow.

I've used k-lite in the past. If you want to avoid even the smallest possibility of a codec conflicts however, ffdshow is the way to go, with real alternative and quicktime alternative if needed.
There is only a few things you need:
Foobar (0.8.3 Special)
Media Player Classic
FFDShow
Real Alternative
Quicktime
Optional:
Videolan Player
You don't really need anything else.

I would install codecs as and when - but to get started FFDShow and Media Player Classic. I also add Real Alternative. This is more than enough to get started and also play DVD's.
Same here. Had trouble with playback when I installed them. No point in having stuff I don't need cluttering up my PC for ages, just to save a couple of minutes of downloading.Originally Posted by Agent
Just d/l the ones you need (divX, XVid, Real Alt. MPC as mentioned above). Had trouble with the Klite pack in the past aswell, screwed up such that I couldn't play DVD videos at all. Only fix was to reinstall windows.
yeah personally i have to agree with staying away from codec packs, i just install the ones i want like divx and realalt, and pretty much have no problems and can play 99% of most codec types , if there is one i dont know i use gspot to find out what it is, then install codec.
What's sad, and I mean REALLY sad, is that Vista looks like it has the same mucked-up DirectShow graphing problems that XP does. I live in hope that there's another methodology under the hood that can bypass the evil of filter merits and just needs to be exposed with software rewrites.
