Harriet Harman wins my first "Utter C*nt Of The Week Award"

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/7474801.stm

Equality minister Harriet Harman has set out plans to allow firms to discriminate in favour of female and ethnic minority job candidates.
Granted, she has proved how she is an utter moron in the past many times. But this really takes the biscuit.

So now its OK to discrimonate, as long as its for her vision of social design. Nice going there.

    But it gets better:
Female part-time workers still earned 40% less per hour than their full-time male counterparts, Ms Harman told Today BBC Radio 4's Today programme.

"Do we think she is 40% less intelligent, less committed, less hard-working, less qualified? It's not the case. It's entrenched discrimination. It's allowed to persist because it's all swept under the carpet."
Or it might be that they are working on average 40% less efficently. If i switched down to a 3 day week, not only would i get much less work done, i wouldn't be as praticed as I am.

Where does this moron come from? If she thinks its fair to give someone the same wage as someone who's working longer hours she should put the practice in herself, and give away 40% of her wage and benefits, see how that makes her feal.

Seriously, this woman is such a c*nt.

Re: Harriet Harman wins my first "Utter C*nt Of The Week Award"

    Why is this news?

"She said firms should be able to choose a woman over a man of equal ability if they wanted to - or vice versa."

    They can do this already.

"The new Equalities Bill will also force employers to disclose salary structures in a bid to close the gender pay gap."

So they'll just show the range available for the positions. Not sure how that's going to help?

"Female part-time workers still earned 40% less per hour than their full-time male counterparts, Ms Harman told Today BBC Radio 4's Today programme."

So what? How about comparing like with like? Part-time male workers against part-time female workers, or even full-time male workers with full-time female workers.....?

Re: Harriet Harman wins my first "Utter C*nt Of The Week Award"

I thought the point she made was that if companies want to discriminate in favour of women applicants (in order to balance the workforce say) then that would no-longer be held against them.

That is one of the most shocking signs of stupidity I have ever seen from her.

Why not compare what the difference is between full time females and part time females, then the gap between full time males and part time males and compare if she wants to play the number game...

maybe she meant per hour pay... well as I said, this is going to just make employers more flexible... its not a constraint so nothing will change

No, it allows employers to discriminate.

Basically the reason anti-discirimination laws exist is to stop an employer using their own discriniminitory beliefs when dealing with hiring.

So this law now only allows a type of social design the government thinks is ok.

this is no different between a neo nazi saying no jews.

And you think discrimination doesn't already occur? Any old excuse can be made up to not hire someone (when discrimination is the true reason). "I didn't think he/she would fit in the company/team." "I didn't like his/her communication skills" etc... even if its not remotely true

Re: Harriet Harman wins my first "Utter C*nt Of The Week Award"

It's Affirmative Action, in essence. I do believe that women, and/or ethnic minorities are still discriminated aginst (by design or otherwise) in many workplaces, but I don't believe that targets or positive discrimination is the way to solve the problem.

Much of the problem is caused by the fact that women, in the main, have children and take time off work to bring them up. It's therefore unavoidable that they take longer to work their way up the career ladder. The solution, IMO, is not to demand that they're given an unequal footing when it comes to promotion- it's to recognise that parenthood and high-flying careers are somewhat incompatible. If you're a career woman, either don't have kids, or have them with a bloke who's less career minded than you and is happy to be a house husband while you fight your way up the ladder.

If my wife was a high flyer I'd be happy with that arrangement.

Unfortunately it is an issue, at the moment ANYONE who believes they are discriminated against on the basis of their gender, sexuality or ethnicity can challenge the decision before a tribunal. This would erode the rights of certain ethnic and gender groups to do so.

It's crazy talk basically, she wants to enpower a modern, free thinking by restricting the rights of a particular group.... it doesnt' take a genius to work out where THAT's been seen before...

As far as I am aware you can't go to employment tribunal unless you have been with the employer 12 months anyway. Whole thing sounds like discrimination to me, and I am against discrimination of any kind.

You've still got 2 more years of this shower of sh1te called a government. I cannot believe that we have such talentless people in these positions of power thinking up and bringing these pointless laws to the statute.

HH is certainly 40% less intelligent that the average woman/man/amoeba. With ever increasing tax and legislation businesses are starting to vote with their feet and leave Britain. We'll see even more ridiculous tribunals/trials for so called discrimination just like that poor hairdresser woman who lost against that muslim who wanted to be a hair dresser but wore a headscarf. She got £4,000 for hurt feelings!

Re: Harriet Harman wins my first "Utter C*nt Of The Week Award"

You have to remember that most politicians (including Harriet Harman) are lawyers.
Due to the inverse proportion of their ego to talent, they consider the answer to ANY problem is Make A New Law.
Instead of actually governing the country, and solving problems, they think that endlessly passing new laws until (with a thorough investigation - easily done in the Police State they are leading us into) every one of us can be classed as a criminal,, and hence their work is done. Gravy Train for lawyers until the Revolution comes!
