It should work (no reason that it wont) my Gigabyte G33 runs my OCZ Flex 9200 at full pelt no problem so you should be all right. Oh I have to OC my CPU to get to the 1150 speed of the memory mind but it would run at 1066 at stock, will all depend on what dividers the board has.
I would also like to know the answer to this question as I have the same RAM and I'm intending to purchase the same motherboard next pay day
Me too please - I've just bought the P5E-VM HDMI and was wondering if I had to use PC5300 or PC6400. Like the OP would PC8500 work at the correct speed without overclocking.
i've just installed the pc2-8500 ram on my p5e-vm hdmi. It is running fine at 6400 speeds. its not currently running at its max speed, i think i will have to do overclocking to get it to do that,
It will run at it's rated speeds (have my pc8000 stuff on my p5e-vm hdmi @ 1200mhz)
But as per the previous post, it will default down to a lower speed. It's just a case of setting the correct voltage and timings, then setting the correct ratio for the ram to run at it's rated speed.
*insert something whitty here*
PC-8500 runs fine on the P5E-VM. And it is a pretty decent motherboard for overclocking. Unless you already have the RAM, it is useful to use the higher speed only if you would overclock your processor and RAM. Otherwise you'd just be paying more for something you'd use at 667MHz/800MHz speeds anyways.
To the OP: Don't those particular modules run HOT ? If it's a mATX case, I'd ensure some airflow across the DIMMS
