How to rackmount the Thecus N8800?

Just got my hands of a Thecus N8800 unit but I cannot figure out how the included "rack sliders" are supposed to be used. And there is no info available from Thecus regarding this either...

Anyone in here who have a "dummies" guide on how you are supposed to use these rack sliders to rackmount the Thecus N8800 in a 19" rack?

Is there a recommendation or solution for Dell racks? If you are unfamiliar, Dell racks have three large square holes per 1U space on each side, front and back. Thus, there are no threaded holes for the provided screws to engage the rack. When used with Dell rails, the rails just snap in without tools by engaging the top-most and bottom-most square holes on the front and back. Obviously, that doesn't work with the provided rails.

Are alternate rails available from Thecus or a 3rd party?

It's not only Dell racks that have this. Our generic rack is the same.

All our equipment is secured using square nuts that have a metal cover which clips into the back of the appropriate holes, you can then just screw is as illustrated above.

Here is a single one: http://cpc.farnell.com/multicomp/scf...nut/dp/EN82151
And here is a bag full: http://cpc.farnell.com/multicomp/scf...-m6/dp/EN82150

"Caged nut" seems to be the keyword to look for.

    ...with safe search on.

I think I may have some knocking about if you're in need of any - let me know and I'll have a look

Re: How to rackmount the Thecus N8800?

I just got my N8800 today and was a bit disappointed when it didn't come with the sliding rail option. My rack is pretty dense and having a fixed mount is going to be difficult to maintain.

If anyone has a sliding rail that works with the N8800, please let me know. I have a bunch of sliding rail sets from Supermicro and they don't fit.

    Thanks.

Re: How to rackmount the Thecus N8800?

I took just a standard slide kit, took apart my N8800's and mounted the kits to the case by drilling new holes into the case. Worked like a charm, but I did spend more time tearing apart and putting back together the N8800 than I did mounting the rails.

I've heard of people making them out of the slides they use for kitchen drawers, but I wouldn't trust that method.

I thought about doing the very same thing! But later found this fixed tray from APC:

All of my racks are APC racks so the tray worked like a charm. Street price for this thing is around $80-$85.00
