    IP35 networking issues under vista

    Hello,

I have been looking all over for a resolution to this issue and havn't been able to find a concrete solution.

I have an Abit IP35 motherboard and I am running Vista 64bit. Every time I boot up, my network connection shows Local Access Only.

I cannot get anywhere with explorer. If I go to the device manager and remove the network controller and reinstall it, it works fine.

I did a quick IP config and found that the IP address it initially got was no good. When I tried to do an ipconfig /release it failed.

Unplugging and repluggin the ethernet has no effect. But, the network is able to detect my HP vista laptop just fine.

Seems to be an issue with the NIC. Any ideas? I don't want to have to reinstall the network drivers each time to get access.

    Hi mooreaa,

Do you have any more information.

You say the IP address it got was no good, what was the address?

What is the IP address of your default gateway?

Could you do an ipconfig /all and post the results, it may help?

When you say "But, the network is able to detect my HP vista laptop just fine" do you mean your laptop can access the internet or that the Vista 64 machine can see it on the network?

Hmm I removed a bunch of windows updates and now the network is working fine.

Could it be an issue with one of the recent vista patches?

I am not seeing the same issue I had prior to removing all the patches.

I have the following updates installed:
    KB931099
    KB931573
    KB931836
    KB932596
    KB933928
    KB935280
    KB936357
    KB937077
    KB930857
    KB929399

The rest were uninstalled. Windows Update tells me the others are ready to install but I am a bit worried.

    Ideas?

Re: IP35 networking issues under vista

So it turns out the issue was with windows sysprep

I was running sysprep to restore it to a generic install because I was in the process of creating a backup image of my system.

Well sysprep doesnt clean up the network settings so it duplicates the network connections which create all hte issues.

I had to go into the registory and remove all my local network connections... after doing so it fixed my problem.
