    IN9 32X Max problems

    Hi!

I'm having so many problems with my new IN9 32X-Max mobo. Here are the problems, bear in mind this is a brand new computer, no OS, just assembled:

    1. USB keyboard does not accept input. So I can't flash the bios. However it accepts enough for me to "press F1 to continue" or "press TAB to see POST details". When trying to flash the bios with a floppy disk, it won't accept input at this point.
    2. POST freezes on code 75. According to other forums, this has something to do with the Abit Airpace card (which I need desperately). I've removed this and now POST freezes at 7F.
    3. POST occasionally freezes at 4E, A0, repeats a few others (b? - b6)

So all of these problems stop me from being able to install an operating system or flash the bios. What's going on? Duff board? I hope not.

System details are to the left <---

    edit: further details:

I cleared the CMOS. This boots up just fine. However, resetting the PC or switching it off results in the A0 post code when turning it back on. If you reset it again, it cycles b2-b6 or something.
If you clear the CMOS whilst the system is in standby (PSU on, PC soft-off), it'll get stuck at 75. If you try to go into the bios after clearing the CMOS, you get stuck on a little cursor in the top left and the POST code is 7F.

    So far no success anywhere.

    Re: IN9 32X Max problems

Went and bought a PS/2 keyboard, was able to access the bios with that. Then I flashed the bios and all was OK after that.

Make sure you have less than 3GB of RAM installed if you put Vista 64 on, it'll crash if you don't. You can put the extra memory back in after it's installed and updated.

    Thanks!

So, if I have 4GB (4 x 1024MB) I'll boot the machine, install Windows Vista 64 bits and all it's updates, with only 2GB of RAM, and when this is done I can install the other 2GB easily?

Yep, take out 2GB of RAM whilst you're installing Vista 64 and whilst you grab the updates. Reboot your machine fully and then switch off and then put the RAM back in. Should be fine after that!

    Re: IN9 32X Max problems

    Hey! I have another problem.

When I power on the system it gives me the C1 error ("Detect Memory:
-Auto-detection of DRAM size, type and ECC
-Auto-detection of L2 cache (socket 7 and below)")

    What should I do?

    Re: IN9 32X Max problems

    Nevermind, I solved that one.

Now it just freezes at "75". I can move around the BIOS, but I can't flash the BIOS because the USB Flash drive is not recognised. And I can't install an OS because it just reboots when Windows finishes loading it's files.

Please help me! It's a brand new motherboard!

    Re: IN9 32X Max problems

I've tried downloading the BIOS file to put it in a bootable Floppy. But when I format the floppy to be MS-DOS it doesn't leave me enough space to copy the 5 files to it!

    What should I do??

You need to use 2 floppy disks. 1 for the bios files and 1 for a MS-DOS boot disk. BIOS files use to be 512k but more and more models now have 1mb BIOS file.

I need to use two floppy disks? Do I need two FDDs?

Or I create a MS-DOS Floppy, and another with the BIOS. And then inser the MS-DOS one to start up in Pure DOS, and then switch Floppys?

(BTW - I've contacted Abit UK regarding this issue, do you think the BIOS update will be the solution?)

How did you flash the bios if the board is stopping at 75?

    Re: IN9 32X Max problems

Sean I wonder if you can help me with one more thing.

You know the Windows Vista HDD menu, where you create partitions and select where you will install Windows?

Do I need to use the "Load-Driver" button to load any particular HDD related software? And if yes, which one? NvRaid Installation Disk, Sil3132 RAID Installation Disk, Sil3132 SATA Installation Disk, SiliconImage 3132 RAID Driver, SiliconImage 3132 SATA Driver, or the nForce RAID Driver?

Only if you are running your hard drives in RAID mode. If the hard drive is detected by the VISTA install there is no need to use any additional drivers.
