Abit AV-8 Question

I have an old board kicking about and I want to put it to some better use. Is there any unofficial Opteron 939 Support for this board.

I dont want to spend cash on a CPU if it's not going to work

that board will run any S939 with an appropriate BIOS incl. Opterons.
They aren't officially supported because AMD don't like official support for nominally server CPUs in desktop mobos but they run fine.

A word of caution though. Some of the early VIA chipset boards couldn't run X2 CPUs due to a problem with the VIA chipset.

IIRC, these were the K8T890 boards (the first ones using PCI-E). VIA fixed this on the "rev 2" K8T890 chipset. The earlier K8T800 (AGP) was OK though.

Your best bet just to be sure would be to check CPU support to ensure that standard X2 CPUs are supported. If they are, then an X2 Opteron will also work as Buff stated.

I am trying to buy an Abit AV8 mobo does anyone out there have one for sale in good operating and bootable condition??. Will pay reasonable price for one that is not dead!!. have been on wEbay won one but it came dead..looked ok but never booted!!!!!$$%#@. I know that alot of gamers are always keeping up with the latest and greatest but I usuaully am couple years behind because of my budget. I do build my own and know a little bit about them although the technology is moving very fast so I cannot keep up like you younger gamer guys. All I really do is web search, do autocad and draw parts in 3d program for my personnal hobbies. I do some writing and download info on different hobbies that I have and enjoy but gaming I have not gotten into lately. Used to buy airplane dog fighting and indy and nascar racing games but that ws a few years ago. I do have a amd athlon 64 3800+ cpu waiting for a mobo. Also want to stay with agp for a while and like the usb and sata ports .
has anyone had any problems running that cpu with the AV8 mobo??
