    fp-in9 multiplier error

    Hi
When i set the fsb to 1333 and drop the multiplier to 8 in order to keep my E6700 to 2.66 the pc runs fine with no stability issues. The vcore is notched up by 0.05V . However when i run sandra or cpu-z it reports it as running at 3.33 ie 10 multiplier. Speedstep knocks it down to 2.00

Soft menu reports the cpu as running at 2.66 but all other windows programs indicate otherwise. As the pc runs great i,m not bothered as previous attempts @ leaving the mulitipler at 10 have caused restarts when running tests, although i had left votages untouched.

Is this a bios bug??? ver 14 flashed from dos

try CPU-Z. it should report correctly. i.e. ORTHOS is also showing speed with full multiplier (not correct if you have lowered multi).

    Re: fp-in9 multiplier error

cheers but as stated cpu-z reports it as 3.33 not 2.66

The multiplier option does not appear to function though i'm happy as its rock solid @ 3.33 with just a minor voltage change, though temps are up and the cpu fan takes longer to spin down though i could tweak that.

    Re: fp-in9 multiplier error

I've noticed that as well, the multiplier does work but the SpeedStep driver in windows somehow gets in the way and tries to set the default maximum multiplier.
If I set a lower multi, the SpeedStep driver (intelppm.sys) completely avoids the multiplier set under SoftMenu.
I suggest you disable EIST under CPU feature so the speedstep driver wont get in the way.
You can also try to disable C1E as it also throttles clock and voltage but it should be OK.

    Re: fp-in9 multiplier error

as above disabling C1E & EIST should let the multi change stick.
or as it seems to be having no problems why not just keep running at 3.33GHz instead of 2.66?

    Re: fp-in9 multiplier error

In my case, to boot and load windows at 3,33GHz, 1,400V has to be set in BIOS but in his case he might be just fine with 1,350V so yes, why not keep running at 3,33GHz ?

    Re: fp-in9 multiplier error

yes its tempting to let it stay there, temps as measured by core temp under load are 50-55C @ 2.66 and 58-63 @ 3.33. idle temps are only 2-3C higher but for general use its not important, I'll save it for when the extra power is needed. Looks like a 20-25% boost in cpu benchmarks in sandra
new memory and extra fans ordered from scan has been delayed so its back to stock anyway, then I'll see what she'll do

    Thanks for the advice
