    IP35 problems

having a few problems with my new setup.

Abit IP-35 (updated to BIOS version 12)
intel E2160 (zalman 9700 cooler, temps at idle in windows around 40)
    2GB Corsair XMS2
ATI X800 GT all in wonder
    Maxtor 160gb s-ata hard disk
    Pioneer IDE DVD-RW

i have the twin boot problem (turn it on, pc powers up but no post for a few seconds, then powers off, then back on again and boots fine)
It does this when booting from cold, on reset or restart and after changing BIOS settings)

slow boot and other windows problems.
when i load the optimised defaults, posting takes a long time, as does booting into windows (if you have the safe mode menu come up, each second of the 30 second count down lasts for about 5 seconds, in windows most things seem fine, but playing games liek trackmania has problems with the game being very slow for the first couple of mins before running at full speed) changing to the fail safe settings cures any slow booting/running problems and the system seems fine.

sorry this isnt a huge amount of info to go on, but i'm rather tired at the moment.

If anyone has any ideas what could be causing my problems, or wants more info, please tell/ask me and i'll try to help

    thanks in advance

It shouldn't do it on a restart from Windows.
You can get rid of the initial double boot (except after being disconnected from power) by installing Beta 13 BIOS (available from abit USA forum Beta BIOS sticky).
The stop, start on saving new BIOS settings is normal for P965 & P35 mobos.

As for the rest - first off do you have your RAM set to Corsair's recommended voltage (& not the JEDEC 1.8V) & timings ?

    Re: IP35 problems

right, this is the exact memory i have

Computer hardware and software at amazing prices, available online from Scan Computers UK

i just leave all the settings on auto at the moment, i have tried overclocking the board (setting the fsb to 300) and running the memory at 1:1 (so 600mhz for the ram) but i still get the double boot thing.

is the beta 13 BIOS safe to instal, or is it going offical soon?

well, you haven't changed anything that would affect it so you would expect it to still ...

is the beta 13 BIOS safe to instal, or is it going offical soon?
afaik, certainly no major problems reported that I've seen.

    Re: IP35 problems

Hiya BUFF! Just curious, do you know why the bios updates are much more recent for the Pro board vs the IP35-E and the IP35? Seems like they are about 2 months apart. FWIW, I don't have the double post chipset strap reset with the 1.4 final on the IP35 Pro.

afaik none of the uGuru equipped mobos have ever exhibited it.
My own guess is that because uGuru is designed to switch things like straps, clock speeds etc. that it's taking over/interfering with what normally causes it.

    Re: IP35 problems

I did not run the 1.0 shipping bios for very long but IIRC, it did double post with that bios. Also, if I make a substantial change to the PRO that causes it to reset the chipset strap, it will double post, even with 1.4 final. However, this is the case with other brands also and with the 975, 965, and P35 chipsets. I have seen this since the 925 chipset days. It's not a "problem" or defect per se. But, it does seem to worry some people for some reason.
