IP-35 Pro - JMicron Installation Disk

A quick question: what is the JMicron Installation Disk (driver) used for on this motherboard? So far I have obtained up-to-date Vista 64-bit versions of the following drivers and utilities for this motherboard:

abit FlashMenu Full version Vista 64-bit
    abit uGuru 3.1X Vista 64-bit
Intel Chipset Vista 64-bit - version 8.3.1.1009 PV
    JMicron Installation Disk
Intel Matrix Storage Manager - version 7.8.0.1012
JMicron SATA Driver Vista 64-bit - version R1.17.28.00
    Realtek 8110SC Gigabit Lan V6.197 Driver Vista 64bit - version 6.197.0917.2007
Realtek High Definition Audio Driver Vista 64-bit - version R1.81

I don't know that the JMicron Installation Disk is for. Any ideas?

Its for the IDE controller. You need when installing the OS using an IDE device.

Re: IP-35 Pro - JMicron Installation Disk

There does not appear to be a 64-bit Vista version of the JMicron Installation Disk. Any ideas?

I will be installing the OS (Windows Vista 64-bit) using an IDE-connected DVD drive.

[Edit]: Just reading the IP-35 Pro manual, it suggests that the JMicron SATA Driver is required when a device is connected to "eSATA1" or "IDE1". Now i'm even more confused! Is the 'JMicron Installation Disk' really required?

Re: IP-35 Pro - JMicron Installation Disk

If you are not using the JMicron SATA/IDE connections I would disable the controller in the bios and not install the software. Its good practice to disable hardware that is not being used so to free up resources. For example on my AB9 Pro I disable the JMicron and SI SATA controllers as I only use the ICH8R controller (3 hard disks and 1 SATA optical), I also disable firewire, onboard sound and one of the onboard NICs.

Obviously if u have an PATA IDE DVD/CD then u need to choose the F6 option when installing XP/Vista and load the JMicron drivers to ensure u can continue the install on that controller, the link u have above has a folder called Floppy64, copy these to a floppy disk (or USB pendrive for vista if its easier) and select these at the F^ prompt during the initial build

ANy other questions just post, plenty of good people in here to help

Re: IP-35 Pro - JMicron Installation Disk

Thanks for the information, d3fiant. I will be using the following drives:

    2 x SATA HDD
    2 x IDE DVD writers
    1 x floppy

I haven't started the build yet and I haven't gone through the motherboard manual in detail, hence I don't know which interfaces i'll be using yet.

Do you? I installed Vista 32 bit from my IDE DVD-RW and it worked alright by itself. I may be magic though. (Though DVD drives don't need drivers, so that may be why)

if the IDE drive is hosted by the JMicron then u do, at least with XP, Vista might be OK, but to be honest Ive not used that controller, just going off wot Ive heard

Yea the P35 chipset doesn't have any native IDE channels so it was on the JMicron chipset thing. I plugged in the IDE cable, on boot configured ram voltage, raid settings and set the jmicron up. Then changed first boot drive to the Jmicron ide cd drive, put vista cd in, and it worked. It just comes up with the normal screen, loads files, you choose where to install windows, it does it all then you set up your username and password. Maybe the vista cd already has them, because I didn't need to install the drivers for my raid array either.

Vista should have a driver for the JMicron although it obviously won't be the latest version.
