    IP35 not posting

I'm helping my friend John build his first pc remotely. (via skype and web cam)

We've had a few problems. first was a bad corsair hx 520w psu which was rma'd, today we got the replacement and continued with the build.

    Specs
    Intel Core 2 Duo E6750
    Abit IP-35
250 Gb Western Digital WD2500AAKS sata
    LG 18x GSA-H66NBAL DVDrw sata
    520W Corsair HX
    Scythe Miné cooler
    Coolermaster CM-690 case
    AKASA AK-FC-06-BK Fan Controller
    2x 120mm sharkoon fans
    Geil Ultra DDR2 2.0GB PC6400 Dual Channel memory kit (2 x 1GB) 800MHz (4-4-4-12)
    MSI 8800GT 512mb

All put together, the problem is plug in the psu turn on the pc, red led 5VSB comes on, however the the VCC led gives blue flashes, fans start to spin, stop, then start again.

There is no pc speaker on this case so no post beep code
    Any ideas?

Tried so far, memory, 1 in or none in.
Power on while holding "insert" key (sudgested in the manual)
Went through list of cables pluged in to see if we missed something . . . possible
I would like to advoid disasembly as much as possible, he's a novice and a bit scared of it all so it's not the quickest of builds.
However we'll try a simple out of case build tomorrow, just looking at other sugestions first.
    Any sugestions?

I've asked him to check in his local pc shop to see if they sell a pc speaker, if not might try to pinch one from his current pc (pritty sure it has one, not sure how easy it'll be to get to)

Possible faulty psu damaged the motherboard?

    Re: IP35 not posting

Ooo Ta, we didn't even get as far as a video signal feed, let alone the freezeing bios.
Did he get a replacement fan for the mine and get it working?

He's so going to hate me when I tell him to remove the Scythe mine cooler, he had a good deal of struggle getting it on.
I selected and ordered the bits for him and went with the mine as it's suposed to be quieter than an ACf7p, smaller than a ninja, not that expensive and fairly easy to fit with it's push pins.
In reality it's far large than I realised which made the push pins far harder to get at.
I think a Thermalright ultima-90 with it's smaller size and bolt through would of been eaiser for him.

Still he should have an eaiser time fitting the stock cooler.

    Re: IP35 not posting

Stock cooler worked a treat. But we ended up changing the fan (bought one of the 3 quid Akasa jobs from Scan) and that worked. Certainly wouldn't hurt to swap out the fan for one of your spares and try it out first I reckon.

I'm guessing he's tried the stock cooler and things are still the same....different suggestions required.

    Re: IP35 not posting

there's a no. of things to try.
1st is to start with clearing CMOS.
    Use a PS/2 kb & only 1 DIMM.
Ensure that the ATXPWR, ATX12V1 are connected & an rpm signalling fan plugged into the CPUFan header.
HSF properly fitted (quite a lot of people don't install the HSF properly as Intel's system is poor imo) otherwise the system will shut down after a few seconds due to heat.

Another gfx card & another PSU would be handy to try.
try a gfx card in the 2nd PCI-E x16 slot in case primary is faulty.

    Re: IP35 not posting

Yep that's the sort of thing I ment BUFF other things that could be causeing the problem.

We've just disconnected the mine fan and pluged in the intel stock fan on it's own. no go

Rebuilding outside the case with minimal bits as I type this.

    Re: IP35 not posting

Had something similar with my board which I eventually cured by repeatedly clearing the CMOS (jumper on, wait 10 seconds, jumper off) around 6-7 times. The last but one time I managed to get it to booting but it wouldn't reboot so cleared the CMOS yet again and suddenly everything was ok and it's been rock solid ever since.

No idea whether it will kick yours in to action or not?

another CMOS rest and plugging in all all the power cables it comes on but no screen input detected by the monitor

CMOS rest once more and a quick flash of a screen

2 more CMOS rests and everying works

    Re: IP35 not posting

Got some very odd thing going on atm.

Left almost every thing at default settings to install windows and such.
I'll list the full details later
Just off the top of my head
    CpuZ reports
    FBS 340
    CPU multiplier x6

(the default for the e6750 is 333 x8)

Speedfan reports the +12v as 6.3 and cpu temp as 12c
    ABitEQ refuses to run

Maybe we need to reset the CMOS a few more times

    Re: IP35 not posting

the x6 is probably EIST kicking in with the CPU idle.
Never believe that apps like CPU-Z are perfect though as they often have bugs.
abits typically have a 2% overclock out of the box which is where your 340fsb comes from.

    Re: IP35 not posting

I understand now, I missed EIST

I went through the bios section of the manual again when it wasn't 2am and I was knackered.
One thing I don't like about this motherboard is the you cannot lock the memory frequency.

well it seems to working and stable although we cannot seem to get any reliable temp&voltage settings except from the BIOS.
It's not realy a problem for John, he's over the moon that he's built a pc that works.
I would probably dirve me up the wall.

While I really like the layout of this motherboard it would of been nice if the extra 4pin molex power socket was at the bottom not the middle of the board, also moveing one of the fan headders to the bottom right corner would of been good
And this very strange clear the CMOS multiple times before it posts for the first time.

Overall: good motherboard with quirks, but I can live with them for the price.
