    Abit I-G31 Problems

    Recently installed a Abit I-G31 mobo with a pentium dual core E5200 (2x2.5Ghz), 1 IDE HD, 1 SATA optical, 2 x 1Gb Corsair RAM

Issues are occassionally when booting it sticks at the ABIT splash screen - no errors.

    OR

an error message at POST, cpu has been changed or is unworkable.

If neither of these errors happen the PC works fine. All at stock settings in BIOS.

After downloading, installed ABIT EQ I get an alert when its running.

CPU VTT voltage 1.07 - should be between 1.08 and 1.15 I believe.

Is this the possible reason for the boot issues ?

    Thanks a lot in advance.

    Re: Abit I-G31 Problems

    Hi man,

May be a BIOS problem. Do a CLEAR CMOS to see if those problems stop. Also you could check if there is a updated BIOS for your motherboard, what version do you run by now?

    http://forums.hexus.net/abit-care-he...-stepping.html

There is a BIOS update for the IG31 board. If you gonna try do it under DOS mode, or memory Stick, and da a full clear cmos after the update. Try to not use those windows utilities to update your BIOS, they are sometimes very problematic.

    Good Luck dude !

Thanks! I'll give that a go.

I checked the BIOS updates the other day and I could see was a first revision so discounted it after that.

Must learn to read properly LOL

I'll let you know how I got on - will do update via USB floppy.

    Re: Abit I-G31 Problems

Ok, so I've updated the bios but its dated 10/03/2008 - don't think thats any later. I followed the whole process and cleared the CMOS for 2mins as directed.

The following link shows that only 1 bios is available which is 1.0 and the E5200 says test next to it.

    http://www.abit.com.tw/cpu-support-l..._g31_i-g31.htm

    Not updated since July 2008.

Booted and rebooted a few times - ABIT EQ still complains about the VTT voltage tho....................

Thumbs up Re: Abit I-G31 Problems

    Ok man,

This is a BETA BIOS, dont worry about this message:
'...evaluation ROM - not for resale ...'

So about the post problems that you had, all gone? This post erros:

'' ....an error message at POST, cpu has been changed or is unworkable....''

''...Issues are occassionally when booting it sticks at the ABIT splash screen - no errors...''

    Is working ? Hope so.

About the VTT in the AbitEQ, just configure your ABITEQ do acept this VTT value. In your BIOS set CPU_VTT to 1.10v, you will be ok!

What ir your PSU? Generic ?

    See ya

yes - no more errors, in about 30 boots or so over 5 days.

No, PSU is a 380W Antec PSU, part of an ANTEC nsk4480b or similar.

    Fingers crossed!

    Thanks again dude!

    Re: Abit I-G31 Problems

Have you done any overclocking with this motherboard?

It is on a today only (till about 1PM) and I am wondering if it has FSB and voltage options with the latest bios. Looking to run an E5200 at 3.0-3.3Ghz on it with DDR800 RAM. Hopefully a 266Mhz FSB with the standard 12.5 E5200 multiplier and amemoery divider to give 798Mhz.

I have used the Gigabyte G31 mobo to do this on a few systems, but this will save £17 on the current offer. Fast advice would be really appreciated.

    Re: Abit I-G31 Problems

Review here suggests no Clocking options, but updated Bios might change that:

    Re: Abit I-G31 Problems

Ah well, offer over so have upgraded the Mobo for this system and stuck in the J&W G41 mobo. Manual shows a beast of an OC section in the Bios so this should happily get decent results for me
