    AB9 Quad GT - Front Panel AC97

    OK thought it was about time to hook up the front panel audio connections from my Akasa Mirage-62 (now that I have some headphones - well it's the usual lazy man approach, if it can be put off...).

    There is a discrepency between the Akasa and Abit info, specifically regarding pin 4 "Ground".

    1. Akasa pin spec
    2. Page 1-18 in motherboard manual re: front panel audio connection header.

    From the Akasa image I have the following connecters mapping to AC97 compliant pin definition:-
    mic-in = 1
    l-out = 9
    l-ret = 10
    r-ret = 6
    ground = 4
    mic-power = 3
    r-out = 5

    From the Abit manual:-
    1 = mic in
    2 = gnd
    3 = mic power
    4 = nc
    5 = line out (r)
    6 = nc
    7 = nc
    9 = line out (l)
    10 = nc

    So assuming "nc" is "not connected" and I have the scarey line in the Abit manual of "Please do not connect the 'Ground' cable or 'USB CC' cable from the front panel module to the Pin 4 'AVCC' of this header", I have:-

    Abit pin => Akasa cable
    1 (mic in) = > 1 (mic in)
    2 (gnd) => 4 (ground) if I read "gnd" as ground?
    3 (mic power) => 3 (mic power)
    4 (nc) => not connected
    5 (line out r) => 5 (r-out)
    6 (nc) => not connected
    7 (nc) => not connected
    9 (line out l) => 9 (l-out)
    10 (nc) => not connected

    Correct?

    Re: AB9 Quad GT - Front Panel AC97

    U need to make sure the correct mode is chosen in the bios also as that mobo has an onboard HD capable pinout with channges the pins depending on if u choose AC97 or HD. I had this problem with my AB9 and my Akasa Eclipse which is pretty much the Mirage with a different front panel.

    Apart from that it looks fine as long as AC97 is selected in the bios

    Re: AB9 Quad GT - Front Panel AC97

    Thanks for the feedback.

    Regarding the AC97 / HD mode, I think this is where my confusion is coming from. In the manual it lists pin 4 as "AVCC" for HD AUDIO, whereas AC97 pin 4 is "NC".

    Therfore, would I be correct in assuming that regardless of which "mode" in the BIOS is selected, by having nothing to pin 4 would avoid this situation?

    edit: for completeness the HD Audio ABIT pin specs are:-

    1 = MIC2 L
    2 = AGND
    3 = MIC2 R
    4 = AVCC (or "the pin of contention!")
    5 = FRO-R
    6 = MIC2_JD
    7 = F_IO_SEN
    9 = FRO-L
    10 = LINE2_JD

    Re: AB9 Quad GT - Front Panel AC97

    edit: doh, u already found this, hope the info below still makes sense

    found this, might make it easier;

    Picture for AC 97 connectors for Mirage 62

    All the below is based on the linked diagram
    From the picture and abits instructions I would only plug in 1, 3, 5 and 9, make sure u change the audio driver into AC97 mode, ur manual will tell u how to do that, u will also need to ensure AC97 is selected in the bios. If the above doesnt work then plug in 6 and 10, I would leave 4 well and truly disconnected, if anything the wire 4 should got to pin 2 if abits manual is to be believed.

    Hope u figure it out, just dont plug anything into pin 4. Ur case isnt HD compatible as far as I am aware so u need to forget the HD pinout and make sure everything knows its AC97, so bios and driver

    Re: AB9 Quad GT - Front Panel AC97

    I would if it wasn't for the fact that there is no cable from the case front panel as per their product support image! Grr.... I'm sure Scan will help me out though!

    Re: AB9 Quad GT - Front Panel AC97

    fella just found out that Akasa have released a V2 of the Mirage 62 which has HD front panel rather than AC97 which means u need to use the HD audio pinout and change the bios and driver to use HD and not AC97, obviously only an issue if u bought the mirage recently and it is a v2 case
