    ip35 dark raider no boot

    Hi,

I received an ip35 from scan yesterday, today i decided to install the board to replace my p5n-e sli

I have installed all parts as i always do and all i get is a 5 second beep then a 3 second pause and it keeps repeating,

    E4400
    ip35
    ocz 2gb pc6400 gold
    hiper 580w modular
    36gb raptor
    pioneer dvr-112
    8800gt

all that was replaced was my board, i have read through this forum before i bought the board and have seen all of the problems and fixes,

I do not know what the problem is as there is nothing i can find in the manual about audible alarms

i have now put all parts back into the asus board and i am using it now,

    any advice would be appreciated

a long (not usually 5 second though) repeating beep is usually memory & that OCZ Gold is known to be a bit problematic.
Try with just 1 DIMM installed & if it POSTs enter the BIOS to set the RAM voltage to what OCZ recommends (iirc ~2.1V) as it's probably at the JEDEC 1.8V.

Re: ip35 dark raider no boot

got any other DDR2 memory (at least 667)?

    You do have connected?:
    20/24-pin Main ATX
    4/8-pin ATX12V1
RPM sensing fan to CPUFan1 header
whatever the 8800GT needs in power connection

Don't suppose that you also have another gfx card?
Some 8800GTs have proven not to be as backward compatible with PCI-E 1 as one would like?

Re: ip35 dark raider no boot

    I have a very similar problem, rover214.

An Abit IP35 that I also bought from Scan recently will not post if the power connection to the PC is interrupted. I have found that I can get the system to boot if I follow the full clear CMOS procedure from the manual after leaving the PC without power for an hour or so.

    The procedure is:

    1. Turn off the switch on the PSU.
    2. Set the Clear CMOS jumper to the clear position. (Left 2 pins if you look down on the mobo with cpu at the top)
    3. Disconnect all the power connectors on the motherboard including the 4-pin molex and PCI-Express power to the video card.
    4. Remove the CMOS battery.
    5. Wait for a minute.
    6. Re-install the CMOS battery and re-connect all the power connectors.
    7. Set the Clear CMOS jumper back to the normal position. (right 2 pins)
    8. Turn on the switch on the PSU.

After you go through these steps try booting your system.

If it's the same issue that my IP35 has, you'll probably find you'll need to repeat these steps if you have to unplug the PSU for any reason.

    Good luck.

Re: ip35 dark raider no boot

Ok, got it working now with a little help with a stick of Corsair value select,

I have updated the bios to the latest one on the website, (15) as it says in the bios,

I was on (11) when i first booted up and tried an overclock of 9 x 300 on my e4400 and the board booted perfectly into windows but, with the double boot issue,

now on (15) i cannot achieve the same overclock at all and i still have the double boot issue, i was under the impression that this bios (15) was supposed to stop that issue happening,

I still have faith in this board but, it is not a good start by any means, there is no information on Abit's site or any retailer site about the memory problem (must have 1.8v) as i can find,

Could you please suggest a few alternatives for my 2gb ocz gold xtc memory that would benefit the potential that this board has

thanks for all the previous help.

it should stop it except if you totally remove power (incl. standby power) from the mobo it will do it on the first boot after power is restored.

you don't have to have 1.8V memory e.g. my 2.2v Ballistix boots fine in it at default.
it's just that that particular OCZ Gold memory seems to have a poor SPD programme or something - the OCZ Platinum Rev. 2 works fine.

Re: ip35 dark raider no boot

Buff, thanks for the speedy reply

my pc is on a bank of plugs that all get turned off at night,

I have been looking at Transcend axe ram (pc6400) or Ballistix tracers (pc8500), which would stand a better chance?

I don't know the Transcend (it's probably fine) but the Ballistix should be OK (Ballistix Tracer 6400 will be fine too).

Interesting, the same thing happend to my just now. I run the OCZ Platinum Rev 2, but it was only recognised as 5-5-5-15, so I manually changed the timings to 4-4-4-15, without increasing the voltage (yepp, first time overclocker). Instead of POST, all I heard was the repeated outcry of the motherboard and after clearing the CMOS by jumper, the motherboard kept restarting, but no POST happend. After separating the power supply - since none of the the front buttons worked - the motherboard wouldn't boot anymore and the red standy power LED on the PCB is also dead.

    Sounds familiar?

I'll have to go to work now, so I'll switch off the PSU and remove the CMOS battery. Then I'll cross my fingers and turn around in ingnorance, hopping that everything will be better when I come home again.

Re: ip35 dark raider no boot

Well, the "trick" works. Seems like I have to reset the BIOS by removing the battery instead of the CMOS jumper. For me it is sufficient to remove the connection to the PSU, the cables can stay attached to the mainboard.

    A little annoying though...
