Abit IP35 Double boot from cold?

    Hi All

i have an Abit IP35 that always double boots when turned on from cold. By this I mean when I switch it on, it everything powers on but after a few seconds it all powers off again, then after a second it powers back on then boots fine.

I've scowered the bios settings to see if I've got anything wrong but can't find anything. I'm not overclocking and am running some fairly normal kit in the machine:

    Motherboard: Abit IP35 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2
    Processor: Intel Core 2 Quad LGA775 Q6600 2.40GHz
    Memory: Corsair 2GB DDR2 XMS2-6400C4 TwinX (4x1GB)
    Video Card # 1: BFG GeForce 8800GT OC 2 512MB GDDR3
    Hard Drive # 1: Western Digital Raptor X 150GB 10000RPM SATA
    Hard Drive # 2: Western Digital RE2 500GB SATA-II 16MB Cache
Power Supply: Corsair HX 620W ATX2.2 Modular SLI Compliant PSU (CMPSU-620HXUK)
    Monitor: L2442W 24" Widescreen LCD

The bios is set with the CPU as default with the memory set to have 2.1v and 4-4-4-12 timings.

Oh and I only get 5.6 on Vista64 for the memory, is this right?
    Any help would be great.

Common to all mobo's with this chipset. Newer BIOSes will not double post unless the mains cable is disconnected.

Re: Abit IP35 Double boot from cold?

So this is normal? Wow, what a wacky world of mobos this is.

I'll upgrade the bios and see if it helps then. I thought I'd missed something out in the config or done something wrong.

Is there any reason why the IP35 does this?

Re: Abit IP35 Double boot from cold?

it's the memory strap being set.
Upgrade to BIOS14 & as stated you should only then see it on the first boot after power has been restored following being totally removed from the mobo.
If you leave it with standby power in "soft off" you shouldn't see it.

Re: Abit IP35 Double boot from cold?

That's quite interesting - my first thought (not knowing this chipset) was the raptors initially overpowering the PSU until some rail kicked in, but admittedly with an otherwise well regarded corsair 620W this thought was a longshot.

Re: Abit IP35 Double boot from cold?

Thanks for the help . I'll be upgrading the bios tonight and see what happens.

I've gotta say I love this setup, it's amazingly quick and even makes Vista useable (oh why can't they put DX10 into XP?).

The Raptor is a great drive, not quite as fast as the EMC kit I get to play with at work, but then it doesn't take 25 minutes to switch on .

Re: Abit IP35 Double boot from cold?

    Hi

I had this problem earlier today, flashed to BIOS version 14 after i stole my dads floppy drive! Gets rid of the double boot every time, except you change anything on your system, in which case it double boots the first time and thats it.

the stop/start on saving new BIOS settings is again a characteristic of mobos using the P35 chipset (& P965 & no doubt a few others).

Re: Abit IP35 Double boot from cold?

The BIOS upgrade to 14 worked a treat. No more double boots on a cold start.
