    Unhappy BIOS Update goes bad

    Hi all,

I Stupidly used the Flash BIOS upgrade on my Abit IP35E motherboard that i purchased from Scan last October to resolve an issue. Ufortunately the system froze at 7% writing to the BIOS. As you can imagine the whole motherboard has had it.

I thankfully have a second PC in the house so have searched the Abit website for maybe some sort of solution as it tries to boot from the 3.5" disk with no luck.

I know you take your life in your hands when doing this sort of thing but I am unsure where to turn to next ?.

Would i be best talking to scan to see if i can RMA it or is the best solution to return the motherboard direct to Abit to try and have the BIOS re-flashed ??.

I had hoped that there would be some type of fail safe for this eventuality. After looking on some other forums about BIOS repair the general feeling was to aviod the Flash Bios Updater as it's too fragile. Bit late for that now

Any help is very much appreciated.

    Re: BIOS Update goes bad

Well firstly you cant RMA it i wouldnt have thought.
It was you that did the bad flash and not the board that is faulty.

What i would do is contact here:
    techsupport-uk@u-abit.eu

    or here:

    Toll-free (fixed line only): +800-CALLABIT......+ (00) 800-22552248

And ask them to send you a new BIOS chip. I used them recently to get a part that was missing and the service was better than nearly all UK places.

there is a fail safe called the bootblock http://pages.sbcglobal.net/jefn/bootblock.html - are you sure that it's trying to boot from the 3.5" & not the floppy to recover?
Luckily abit still use that & still have user replaceable BIOS chips as well - many mobo manufacturers don't.

Thumbs up Re: BIOS Update goes bad

    Many Thanks Buff,
All ReFlashed using the good old 3.5" floppy and reliable DOS. All now back up and running. God only knows how much running around this has saved me.

    An absolute saviour.

To help Anyone else in the same situation i have created a self extracting 3.5" image of everything needed to flash the BIOS on an Abit IP35E Motherboard complete with instructions. This saves quite some time believe me..

Copy the URL below into a browser and save to desktop then unzip.
