    Error code 6.d Abit IP35 Pro/Need build-Help please!

Greetings- I have been building my first PC. I have finally got everything together. The problem I am having is the post code 6.d. I looked in the user book and it doesnt help. Im lost at this point.

Also, I have the monitor hooked up so I could install the BIOS. Though, I can't see anything on my screen. I assume this relates to the 6.d postcode error. In which I hope someone can help a novice pc builder.

    spec's

    Abit IP35 Pro mobo
    Intel e8400
    evga 9800 gx2 graphics card
    8gb corsair xms2 memory

PS- 6.d post codes says :
    1. Assin resources to all ISA PnP devices
    2. Auto assign ports to onboard COM ports if the corresponding item in setup is set to "auto"

    Yeah wth does this mean>?

Please advise me if you can shed some light.

    thanks

Hi. There are a few pieces of information we'll need before proceeding too far. First, please list everything that is connected to your system by manufacturer and part number. Of particular import are the model numbers for your RAM & power supply. I'm assuming your RAM is 4x2G as I don't believe they make 4G sticks of XMS yet.

To begin with, I'd get back to basics. If this is in the case, pull it out. This will rule out any possible shorting issues with your case. Assemble a bare-bones system on cardboard consisting of the CPU, GPU, 1 stick of RAM and keyboard (the minimum hardware required to enter BIOS; here's an example of bench-testing a system) and try this:
    • Remove power from the system.
    • Hit the power button to discharge the capacitors.
    • Move the CCMOS jumper (or switch) to the clear position.
    • Wait ~30 seconds.
    • Place the jumper (or switch) back in the normal position.
    • Restore power and boot up immediately into BIOS.
    • Select "Load Optimized Defaults" and then set the recommended voltage for your RAM.
    • Save & exit.
    • On reboot, go directly into BIOS and set any other settings you wish, such as timings for your RAM, boot order, etc.

Report back with the remainder of your hardware and let us know how you fare with the above steps.

    Re: Error code 6.d Abit IP35 Pro/Need build-Help please!

Greetings! The cpu/mobo had its bios updated 8/19. I asked the person I bought it from to do this. Yes, the ram I used is the 2gbx4. Its ddr2 800mhz. The power supply is a Thermaltake 750w toughpower/cable management. I have a WD Velicraptor HD 300gb x10,000rpm, Asus Lightscribe 20x drw-2014L1T dvd+r/RW Drive. This is everything I am using.

I also, just tried clearing the cmos and unplugging the battery out of mobo for 1hr. Nothing.

Did you take it out of the case and try it with the bare necessities only?
