IB9 where to find bios 15?

Hi all. recently picked up an e5200 thought I'd replace the e4300 on this board
thats when I found out abit is no longer.
I've heard that bios 15 will enable e7xxx so should work for e5200 no?
I thought it would be worth a try anyway.
but cant find a download anywhere

    Thanks

    Thanks Buff,
Should be a few days before I find out if this little plan of mine will work.
Despite all the bad press this board got I really like it .
Managed to push my e4300 easily to 333x9 on stock voltage.
Hoping I can do better with the e5200 will post more if it works

    thanks again

Re: IB9 where to find bios 15?

the IB9 was designed as a cheap (£40) workstation/non-enthusiast mobo & as such it was fine for what it did. Indeed it will do ~400fsb whilst still sticking to the 1067 strap which can give very good performance.
It was also unusual amongst 965 chipsets in having 2 IDE channels for those that needed them as it avoided using the JMicron onboard controller for IDE using an alternative.

Re: IB9 where to find bios 15?

    Yeah!!!

    Bios flash worked, Thanks Buff!!

After a cmos clear, it recognized the e5200, so I set fsb to 212x12
manually entered ram settings. ran orthos for 45mins temps never got above 43c.
    Purrs like a kitten!!
I'll play around with it a bit more see how far i can comfortably take it and report back.

    thanks again

Re: IB9 where to find bios 15?

    So far so good.
got to 250x12=3gigs temps are still under 50c
still at default voltage 1.2v as low as this board will go
had to drop ram to 667 (3:5)as my cheep ram didn't like to run at 800 (1:2)
I guess any ram might have a hard time with 25% overclock.
I'll let orthos run for the afternoon and see what happens
    cheers

Re: IB9 where to find bios 15?

    It gets even better!
Last night I pushed the front side bus to 270x12 it was orthos stable for just about 3 hrs.
so I bumped the voltage 1 notch (1.225v) and changed NB strap from auto to 1333.
orthos ran for just shy of 5 hrs before it failed.
Dropped FSB to 267x12, left everything else as it was, orthos stable 12hrs. I'd call it stable @ 3.2gigs
with AC freezer7 pro temps never went above 51c
Don't think I need to push it beyond that as I'd like to keep this chip for a couple years.
Although I'm pretty confidant it could go to 3.5g with a bit of a voltage bump, I don't think its gonna make much difference to the performance.

    cheers

Re: IB9 where to find bios 15?

    Great News man!!!

Looking forward to buy one and use my IB9.I´m little by little buying the parts of my second RIG, and this board seens to be a pretty decent overclocker throght, you just need to buy the right CPU!

What a great N.B those old P965 !!!! About your cooling in the N.B, active or stock?

    Thanks for the input !

you might want to check actual relative performance as changing the nb strap to 1333 from e.g.1066 will lower performance all other things being equal.
We know that the IB9 can run 400fsb on the 1066.

Re: IB9 where to find bios 15?

    Buff, thanks for the tip.
Will run some bench tests tonight with both NB straps.
I switched it to 1333 as it dropped my cpu/ram multi.
my ram ocz pc2 6400 system elite doesn't overclock very well.
It seems they don't make it anymore.

    thanks

Re: IB9 where to find bios 15?

Buff, you were right as always.
Although I don't think the performance differs that much.
I ran passmark 3 times for each setting (each on a fresh boot)
    @ 1066 = 1000.2 averaged
    @1333 = 996.7 averaged
sisandra tests were almost the same
    whet 40mips faster @ 1333
    dry 50mflops faster @ 1066
mem tests about 20mb/s faster @1066
So not a huge difference, but enough to make me leave it at 1066
will run benchys again once I tighten up my timings.
With the e4300 i was able to get 3 gigs 24/7
    Ram was at 667. 3 3 4 13
By the way it will not boot @ 800 nb strap.(First time in a while I had to clear cmos)
was very common tho when I was trying to overclock the e4300

    jclafi, stock cooling on NB

    once again thanks Buff
